IV

The Fourth Corps Headquarters was located at Atlanta,
Georgia, when the United States entered WW II. After establishing
defenses in the American Theater, the Corps assisted in training
other Corps Headquarters for combat before embarking for the
Mediterranean Theater in March of 1944.

The Fourth Corps was initially assigned to the Fifth Army Reserve
in Italy and became operational on May 28th and participated in
the destruction of the Gustav Line when Corps elements attacked
and captured Mt. Campi, San Martino, and Priverno.

The shoulder patch worn by the IV Corps is based on a design
approved by the AEF on December 28th, 1918. The four segments
represent the unit's number, and the colors blue and white
represent the Corps' distinguishing flag.
