The Eighth Corps was activated on October 14th, 1940,
with Headquarters at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and had one
change of station before embarking for the European Theater
in December of 1943.

The Corps was first stationed near Worcestershire, England,
where it was in charge of First U.S. Army Group Reserves and
then moved to Marbury Park, Cheshire, where it processed
incoming Third Army troops.

The Eighth returned to the United States in August of 1945 after
having fought in five campaigns and was inactivated on December
15th, 1945, at Camp Gruber, Oklahoma.

The shoulder patch worn by the VIII Corps was based upon a design
approved by the AEF on December 18th, 1918. The number "8" and
the eight sides of the patch represent the unit's designation,
and the colors blue and white are from the Corps' distinguishing
flag.
