Sheila, this is such a timely, highly significant and crucial gallery in an age of growing racial intolerance and zenophobia almost worldwide; in this 21st Century, which we viewed romantically as the promised era of enlightenment and spiritual flowering. What a tragic let-down! The world community is indebted to you and likeminded champions of universal brotherhood - "the bleeding hearts and the artists" - for reminding us about our common humanity and common destiny. But in addition to all of this we have a gallery reflecting enormous warmth, tenderness, humanity, compassion and love. And artistically deserving of the most effusive accolades!

Hi Sheila, I love this gallery, especially because of its diversity. I started some streetphotography myself in Holland and reflecting upon the result I came to two conclusions: One: the beauty of the streetphotography is related to its multicultural diversity. Two: I realised, once I looked at the result, that the diversity in the Dutch streets is much bigger than I thought at "face value". Look for example at the pictures from Rotterdam:http://www.pbase.com/roboele/people_in_rotterdam. I regret that the concept of multiculurality has become under much pressure even here in Holland which has (had?) a tradition of tolerance and assimilation of diversity. But is a fact that it is under pressure maybe due to some of the basic human instincts when people feel they are under threat. In the meanwhile let us as photographers keep up the good (diversity) work! Rob

Sheila: We are all migrants everywhere. So what? I guess you Aussie's feel guilty about success of your own culture or you came to hate your culture. Probably you are educated and intelligent woman because you sound very idealistical. But you are very naive. Basic nature of human being is tribalistic. You are not a student of history. Multiculturalism is recent concept in world history but in past spelled disaster for nations like Yugoslavia, USSR, Roman Empire, and all others that went down same road. You cannot see now, but will see in 50 years you sold your children's legacy. You are in dying culture. Western culture is dying culture and will gone while Japan continues.

Akira Multiculturalism has made Australia what it is today - a diverse open culture where everyone is given a "fair go" (by a majority of Australians) despite race, creed or colour. All migrants have the right, after three years, to become Australian citizens with the exactly same rights as Aussie born folk. Of this I am proud. If we differ from the Japanese, so be it. We are all migrants in Australia, the indigenous folk being the first settlers 60,000 years ago. Sheila

Japanese are smart. We know how to preserve our own culture. While this gallery may give westerners warm fuzzies, it does not bode well for Australia's future.

Hi Sheila, I was just wondering whether you are ask people to pose for you or do you have a super duper lens that enables you to get a great photo without the person knowing. I want to try taking photos of people but have not got comfortable yet with asking them.
