Each day, for one year, I have taken, processed and posted a picture each day of my lovely wife of 24 years, Wanda. This is a tribute to the mother, wife, lover and woman Wanda is each and every day. weka2000, I use CaptureOne and Adobe CS to process my photos. They don't strip the EXIF data from the files. The chances of me doing another year of Wanda is slim to none...I have taken advantage of Wanda's good nature long enough. There are no plans for a book at this point.

This has been such an enjoyable experience. Wanda and Bill thank you. I have had an interest in photography going back to my college days at CSU in Ft. Collins, yet until now my greater interests have been in things that go fast. Your commencement of this project coincided with my renewed interest in photography and it was by pure luck that I found your PAD very early in its development. Virtually every day I couldn't wait to see what Wanda and Bill had for us this time. Wanda, you are a beautiful woman and the way that you've been presented in the photos shows much more than simple beauty. A person almost has a sense of who you are. Congratulations, for that is a difficult task. Bill, for the explanations of each photo and the equipment used, I thank you. It's been a fun and interesting journey! There were days I truly wanted to take that camera of Bill's and shove it where the sun don't shine! But, all in all, it has been worth it. Together Bill and I have created some images that we can look back on an enjoy for many years to come. And along the way we have got to know lots of new friends. Bill, this deserves such are tremendous congratulations to both you and Wanda. It's popularity is not surprising at all, especially given the model. :-) I agree with you about the miracle of the Internet. With all the negativity so often surrounding the Internet's scam and porn issues, our little of the corner of the Internet is a marvelous place. I have met (literally and cyberly) so many great people and learned so much. I was thinking, you should do a vote on the best image of the year. Have people vote for one each month, then out of the winning 12 do a final vote. Maybe the creator of the CSLR challenge voting system would accommodate the process? I think that would be a great finale and provide some fun closure to the project. Again, great job! Jim

Last night my lovely wife Wanda and I completed our year long project "Picture A Day Of Wanda" or "Taking It One Day At A Time"... you pick the title. What a year. One shot taken, processed and then posted each day for 365 consecutive days. We started this project to help me improve my "people photography" skills. I look back and say I have gotten better. I look at images by photographers here and know I have a long way to go. I will continue to practice. The project took twist and turns and went places we never dreamed. It took on a strange life of its own. We never expected it to get the attention or gain the popularity...if popularity is the right word...that it seemed to gain. I have always felt that maybe the project was like a NASCAR race or train wrack...people looked in waiting for the crash. No question, we had days when we scrapped up against the wall but we never crashed. The gallery becoming the most popular gallery of all time here on PBase just floors me. There is so many better photography to be found here. Which brings me to somethings that amaze me. The power of the Internet is truly a wonder. I'm a nobody photographer from the middle of nowhere in a little town in Utah. I have never been published. Other than the local town museum displaying a photo or two, really I never thought anyone would ever see or care about my photography. With the Internet the world has become very small. At last count we have had viewers of our little project from over 130 countries. We have received emails filled with encouragement, suggestions and questions from all over the world. That just blows me away. We have heard from soldiers in Afghanistan and Iraq just saying thanks you for glimpses of home. Again the Internet has made the world small. Our photography has been viewed in places like Faroe Islands which I had to do a goggle search on because I had never heard of them. We had 5.3 million page views during our year. The whole thing blows this ol' cowboy away. Now to the real reason for the post. That is to say, thanks you to so many here you have been an inspiration. Thank you for your help and encouragement. It helped us not become that train wreck. And lastly to Wanda. Babe I love you. Really you get all the credit. You worked so hard and put up with it all even when you hated the thought of posing for one more photo. You get all the credit. I just pushed the button. I am so lucky you put up with me. People can I tell you how great Wanda is. For my 50th birthday, which was Monday, she bought me Canon EF 300mm f/2.8L IS lens that I have been wanting for over a year. Our closing photo. OK, it is a bit different how often does someone take a photo with a 300mmf/2.8 lens inside?? Again thanks everyone. Bill

Now that the countdown is on, I think a lot of us would be curious as to which of your 365 photos are favourites. You've obviously had many, many votes, but I'm not sure if you are able at your end to determine numbers by picture. If you are, could you share the results with your fans? Alternately, either through Pbase or your own site, can votes be accumulated by category - eg. casual, glamour, nude, wacky? Such a poll would be just the excuse many of us would need to carefully review all of your work over the past year. Cheers,

Just look at the imagery and the story behindhttp://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/39362601 as just one example. Did you not get the topic of this project? It is Photo a Day of WANDA. Of courswe, the lady is going to put on her best face, what woman with even an inkling of self-esteem wouldn't? Bill and Wanda put a lot of effort into their gallery and they inspire me in the area of glamour photography and beyond. I do not find their photos artificial but, rather, living art with sometimes a theme devised to give a certain impact. If that's "boring," then I'm the King of Kasmir.

Falcone must not have looked at ALL the pictures. There are some with no smile, some with no make-up, PLENTY with no lingerie. I am not inhuman, but I DO like to present Myself to the world with My best foot forward. Whether posing for a picture or simply going to the grocery store, I DO touch up My make-up. I guess I haven't yet reached the point in My life where I don't care about My appearance. Hi Bill & Wanda, I've been following your project for a while now and just wanted to comment on how much I enjoy it. I see several things in this project. First, I see two people who appear to be best friends. This comes through in Wanda's relaxed nature in front of the camera and the different ways in which Bill sees her. It's obvious that you find your wife beautiful and it comes through in your apprach, something that is ofen missing in these types of shots. This appears to have evoked a jealousy in someone, but evokes envy in me. I wish I had a situation where I had that comfort and respect level. Second, Bill, you're WAY beyond me in photography and I appreciate your comments with the images. It helps me learn and try new things. Good luck in this and all of your following projects. I think that the guest was most likely in his teens and just harassed you because he was getting a kick out of doing it and getting a reaction from everyone,It was hard not to respond back to him because he was so irritating,I think that he liked your gallery and was telling you that you should not be posting pictures of Wanda in hopes that you would post more revealing photos just to show him that you could and there would not be anything that he could do about it,Sort of like reverse psycology.You probably hit the nail on the head about him being a nerd as well.He never would of posted his name because he is a coward,It's always easier to hide behind the guest badge and make nasty comments knowing that you are protected from getting caught,If you look up the word yellow bellied in the dictionary his name is right next to it.:-)

To Bill and all - I was never attracted to this site because of “guest’s” comments or the responses to them. I visit and return to this site day after day to gaze at (in my opinion), a truly lovely and sensual woman and to enjoy the photography of the artist. Sometimes it is brilliant, sometimes it is “so-so”, but it is always enjoyable, and for that I am grateful. Life is far too short, … and these pleasant moments spent here ease the passing. It is difficult to say who this individual might be and I have puzzled over it for several weeks. I have some strong suspicions to his/her identity, but will not post them for suspicions can be harmful to innocent people. I will say though that I have learned in my life that there are very few perfectly “good” people or perfectly “bad” people. I suspect that whoever this individual is, he/she is probably very much like all of us artists here on PBase; a creative and imaginative individual. I have written some things in the dark lonely hours of the night to this person that I am somewhat ashamed of. When I have taken my pain medications I become very “muddle minded” and tend to react with my emotions for I am a very powerfully emotional man and keep them in check when my mind is clear. It was wrong for me to write to this person without being clear headed, although looking over the things I have written I don’t think I ever really stepped over the line. When I am being reactive rather than proactive because of my medications I ignore the fact that all of us have split personalities and identities that are not apparent to those around us, and I ignore the fact that none of us can really understand how and why a man/woman is the way they are without understanding the motivation that guides their actions. We can guess what motivates this person to be so rude, hurtful and antagonistic, but we will really never know unless he/she tells us and is honest about it. Whoever this person is, I wish him/her well, and I hope he/she regains some measure of balance in their life so that it is no longer in their nature to want to upset others.

Bill and Wanda, I am really sorry that you have had to spend your personal time dealing with things like deleting "guest" comments. I am guessing that was the reason behind the numerous posts, forcing you to "deal" with "guest" by having to delete "it's" comments is some sad way of "guest" having some control over your life and free time by making you click the delete button. I am sorry you had to change to not allowing guests the freedom to post, but sometimes it really can take one to spoil it for everyone, so for the short term it is probably for the best. I continue to enjoy the wonderful images you and Wanda produce together! I am almost willing to guess that the "guest" is someone else in the "all time popular galleries" but I will not mention his name. Peace

Well I have gone a cleaned up the trash left by "guest". Now I want to talk about our desperate little guest. I have no idea what I ever did to him to cause him to be such a pain in the ass. I guess what I did isn't really the issue. I find it interesting he complained about me deleting any negative post. Something I really have never done. You can find many negative post on my pictures. He complained about me censoring the post. Well yes I did delete the 100's of silly "censorship is wrong" posts. I just finished getting rid of the "mom's boobs again" post. I did delete the post when he said, "I know where you live. I'm going to break down your door. I'm going to kill you big bear William but first I'm going to rape Wanda and chop her into little pieces while you watch." That one was a little over the top. All the post he put up that had the "F word" were deleted. I gave him more than enough chance to be reasonable. For the past month I didn't delete a single post. Of course he went on with the "your censoring posts...censorship is bad". I ignored him and let his post stay. Having the post remain just seemed to make him madder and to get crazier. He really wanted the post deleted. He really wants this gallery censored. He complained about me deleting negative post. When I let all post stay what did he start to do? He post the same word over and over again a thousand times plus in the same post. Then he posted that same post over and over again. Why did he do it? He did it because he found that it would shut down the comments section on my galleries. I guess we now all know who want this gallery censored don't we. Now it gets interesting. He did post once how because my gallery is popular it made other really good photographers to be ignored here on PBase. Anybody want to bet his gallery was the one being ignored. Some how some one being more popular or getting more hits was a real issue with him. Maybe he needs a better subject or maybe he should learn to take better photos. Maybe if he shared with us the link to his gallery we would all see the light and give him the votes that he seems to need to feed his damaged ego. This poor little individual can't stand that some galleries are better than his. Most of all he can't stand that people say nice things and others can read those comments. So he had to make sure people couldn't read them. I think we call that censorship. And guest is the one wanting things to be censored. Well until we can find a solution to him not being able to post then guest comments will remain off. I'm hoping we can find a way to just block this one individual. The good part is he hasn't the guts to post from his PBase account. He is a little yellow wanker. What a poor soul and individual he most be.

Well guest earned a permanent ban from my sight. Not because of anything he said in his post but because he started to post huge things over and over effectively closing down the comment section. I have no idea why he wants the comment section closed to all but PBase subscribers but that has been his goal from the beginning. We are exploring with slug ways to have his IP permanently banned from PBase (which I feel would be the best solution) or what would really make me happy would be to block guest from being able to post comment but still allow non PBase users to read the comments posted by PBase subscribers. Until we come up with a good solution the comments section will be closed to non PBase subscribers. Because of "guests" action I feel no reason to leave any of his post up on my galleries. So I am going to delete all his stupid childish comments. Yes guest you are now right I will censor your comments.

Revans2, I also agree with every word of your post and echo them. As an addition I also would like to say that Wanda is not “pretty”, but beautiful indeed. I sincerely think that “guest” (and sometimes other folks) confuse “beauty” with physical attractiveness. Yes, Wanda is physically attractive, but if one looks deeper into both hers and Bill’s images (yes, Bills images – seehttp://www.pbase.com/slowpokebill/image/33383742 as an excellent example), one can see what true beauty is all about. True beauty is not about physical attributes; … (the ugliest woman that I’ve ever known in my life was also probably the most physically attractive.), true beauty is about the joy and love in ones life that is reflected from both Bill and Wanda day after day, week after week and month after month in this gallery. To Bill I am eternally grateful, for he re-inspired me in my own personal life to once more look for the BEAUTY around me. To Wanda I am eternally grateful for providing Bill with the vehicle in her being there for him to allow him to do it. So yes Revans2, Wanda is pretty, … she is physically attractive, … and she is beautiful. Do you know what’s cool? Bill saw it first and shared it with us. Cougar_61, an excellent post to be sure, but I think Mr. / Ms. (insert gender of choice) Guest is around a little more than you may realize. I personally have not done a search on PBase for nude wives, so I can’t know from personal experience if your statement that he does not heckle and attempt to harass other men taking photos of their wives is valid or not. I have however seen first hand on other sites how “guest” has harassed and heckled other photographers. After posting here on Mr. Bates site a time or two (with appropriate brown nosing comments because Mr. Bates contributes to my income and livelihood in a very real and powerful way so I MUST brown nose), “guest” saw fit to visit my PBase as well. Since the majority of the images on my site are semi nude or nude images of professional models or former clients, “guest” must have been in orgasmic ecstasy for he immediately started posting his filth. In no way were his comments related to photography, but to the physical appearance of the subjects. Mr. Bates is a far more patient man than I am. (Notice the appropriate brown nosing? I haven’t received my check in the mail yet and this is a gentle reminder.) I politely and calmly explained to Mr. / Ms. Guest that on my site I was God, deleted his / her filth and turned off the comments from folks that are not logged in. I hated to do this, for legitimate guests often have valuable input, … negative or positive. If Mr. / Ms. Guest had offered comments on the photography, (including the posing of the subjects), I would never have deleted the posts. Critical posts about the size / shape / appearance of female breasts and pubic hair or lack of has nothing to do with photography.

Good post Cougar. A large part of this project was for me to learn the lighting and retouching techniques need for taking glamour photos. Most all the techniques I use have been discussed at one time or another as the project has gone along. Of course having a very attractive model like Wanda makes it very easy to get a great photo. The great outcome of this project is that I'm beginning to get request from woman to take glamour and boudoir photos. They are very willing to pay me to take their picture. There is no higher, and more flattering, form of praise than to have a very pretty woman tell you she saw some photos you took of one of her friends and how much she liked them and she wants you to do the same for her.

Okay, I have been inspired to post once again. It seems as if some people have missed the object of this PAD. It is to practice, to share, to inspire to take better photos. It is to take something or someone and make it more. More than just a setting, more than just a person. ANYONE can take a bad picture, it isn't hard. But to take a good one, and then make it better, is art. How many models, or movie stars have you seen without make up or photo retouch, and still look like movie stars? For every good one, I bet you can find a bad one. If everyone was always beautiful, there be no need for make up artist, photo retouch, proper lighting, etc, that goes to support a movie, or a photo shoot. What Bill has done, he has taken a woman that in HIS eyes, shows how HE sees her, not you. Many here, share Bill's image of her. He, IMHO has caught her inner beauty and so, it can't help but to shine forth outwardly. Some, it seems, just don't see it. Sooo, they act like the hecklers that going to a magic show, and yell 'it's fake'. Come on, do you really think a building has disappeared? No, but you enjoy the presentation. So why don't you enjoy the show, instead of screaming and yelling 'censorship!' 'Porn' 'Wife's Breasts!!' I have gone to a lot of pbase galleries looking for nudes of wives just to see if some comments were wide spread, and you know what? There are PLENTY of 'naked pictures of the wife' here, but do you know what I found lacking? A guest yelling "How could you?!!" in almost any of them. Clearly, this place has become a place where many are attracted to Bill's work and Wanda, if you are not attracted to this place, then everytime you return, you prove me right, despite your ramblings. It's like going to a fast food place, eating the food, and telling everyone in the place how the food sucks, but the next day, you show up and eat again. Like it or not, if you show up here every day, this place has become your home on net. And with every negative posting, you become more and more like the tired old person that sits in the corner of the fast food place everyday, mumbling how the food is so bad. But none of the staff or customers pay any attention to that person anymore because the complainer lost all creditability the moment they returned for more. And just like that person, you'll fade into the backgound to become ambient noise. And Bill and Wanda, keep it the good work. Just think of the negative comments as the ginger that refreshes the palette in order to enjoy the positive or comstructive ones. P.S. HAPPY HOLIDAYS!!!

Ok, almost 9 months into this, is it a job yet? I thought of doing something like this, but my biggest fear is that it will become a job. Regardless of how you feel, you have committed to taking a picture every day. And not just one, but I expect several to get the one you feel is worth publishing. The setup time, test shots, shots, and post processing EVERY DAY must be a strain. Add to that the fact that Wanda is making the same committment... I know you have had days were the end results were not what you expected (most of us would be happy with them) so I must believe the pressure must be extensive. So, when the year is over will you both want to stay away from the camera for awhile? By the way, I have been following this for months, great work by both of you. My personal fav is 9-23, don't ask me why. Bear

Bill and Wanda... Why people feel the need to be catty, rude, and openly immature is beyond me. The issue isn't even about Wanda's loveliness, and she is indeed a striking individual. Every day you stretch your creative muscles, using one particular subject. The fact that you chose your wife means you find her inspirational, which is flattering. You could have just as easily chosen a piece of jewelry, or a single tree, in which to shoot on a daily basis. I for one look forward to checking your site on a daily basis, and am continously suprised and delighted at what I find. Nothing about your pictures of Wanda are tawdry or tacky, nor does she herself fall under either category. If it helps, I have been a member of many sites and they all go through this from time to time (wouldn't it be great if it was just one person who visited them all?) On all of those other sites things eventually settle down as you suggest - so as long as you are still enjoying it, carry on. I for one will continue visiting to see how you keep it going. As for titilation.....there are specific sites (so I am informed) set aside specifically for that purpose, this is just a bit of fun!

Bill I really enjoy your gallery. Computer has been down and have missed your photos, but today I went back to see the last three weeks. I came to the one of Wanda making the pie and I swear I smelt apple pie baking. That was truely a great photo that gives you the feeling of home for the holidays, And brings you wonderful memories. If your guest would just open his eyes, and had any kind of photography experience he could see there is so much more going on here. Bill & Wanda, I admit that the first thing to draw me to your site was the pictures of your beautiful wife. What keeps me coming back, is the consistant appeal of good photos with imaginative and enjoyable themes. I'm disappointed in the small-mindedness of some. What they choose to point out in works of art. I am reminded of the Vactican Museum. When you tour the gallery, you will see classical works marred by the application of fig leaf covers. These were put in place by petty, self-appointed 'guardians' of public virtue. People wishing to cover that which offends them. People trying to shame others into denying the inherent beauty in the world. Nothing has changed, although the internet allows an anonymous 'Bully Pulpit'. My opinion holds that, with all the true exploitative and tasteless photography available on the 'net, these 'police'could just move on to a true cause and leave the art alone. John, Wanda is getting very good at posing for long exposures. I'm amazed at still she can be. The street light was your average corner street light...mercury vapor I think??? Anyway I shot in in RAW with the camera in auto white balance. The originals were an awful yellow green. If I had been shooting jpegs I would have been in real trouble. With raw it was just a matter of moving the white balance sliders until things looked OK. I really should have set the custom white balance.

Bill, these last two images (12/13 & 12/14) have such a nice "Holiday" feeling to them! The exif info on 12/13 shows the exposure at 2.5 seconds, ... how did you keep Wanda still for so long? LOL! I don't think my wife could sit still for 2.5 seconds! I do notice a very slight blur around her eyes, but overall the image is crisp. What kind of streetlight was it? The white balance looks right on, ... did you use AWB? I'm still trying to learn this new Canon Digi camera and I get a tad confused at times. The image of 12/14 definitely has that warm Holiday feeling, ... hot chocolate or a nice strong blend of Columbian coffee in the mug, ... "Aaahhh!" Good choice on the higher ISO for the shot, ... the flash didn't have to fire as hard leaving a nice overall soft look to the image. Good Job!

Hi, I'd just like to say that sure, I was hooked into the "Wanda POD" by Wanda's beauty. But, although Wanta is georgious(wonderful eyes), I started looking forward to the scenes Bill took of the area they live it. It's not an area I have ever been (europe, MN and the NE are the places I know). And I guess I had just dismissed it all as "desert wasteland". Now I know better. The contryside is amazing, and sometime I'd really like to visit the area to see it for myself. The sense of "open space" is amazing. And frankly, Bill for all his modesty takes very, very good pictures. I'd like to say thanks to Wanda for being such a sport, and thanks to Bill for his ideas and skills as a photographer. John, the "idiot guests" comments don't bother us at all. We just laugh at how stupid they are and we appreciate the hits on the site. They are trolls and only post to get a reaction from people. the reaction can be me turning off the comments to "guests" or other viewers responding to the idiot comments. IF NO ONE RESPONDS TO THESE FOOLS first they will escalate in how foul and crude they can be. Then they will move to very threating comments because again all they want is some sort of response. That is because they have no control over any part of there lives so they try to control in little places like this. We will not let these poor insignificant fools control our site. So again everyone...do not respond to the "stupid guest comments". Fred's actions from what I have seen are pretty good. I haven't tried them just because I have a hard time with the thought of paying for Photoshop actions I can build myself with a little effort. Bill, The pictures are generally exceptionally well done and those eyes, they are mesmerizing. Anyhow to cut to the chase, how the Dickens do you find time to create these every day? Other PADs I've viewed are at times a collection of some good and some pretty marginal shots and frankly many uninteresting ones. But you to come up with some exceptional, some good and not so good, but always interesting shots and that is remarkable to me. Okay, I've been quiet for a while now, but why does it seem if there are always someone having to voice their belief on who and what someone should see. If you don't like looking at someone else's wife, or husband, in states of dress, or undress, use your right not to look. Don't come here day after day, waiting to be outraged. If you do come here, day after day, and knowing that you are going to be offended, so you can comment 'how could you post such things' then, in my belief, you're a hypocrite. If you don't like it, don't look. Simple as that. Don't place comments here to spoil someone elses enjoyment. Afterall, that is just as bad as putting on a mask to hide your face, then go to a movie you know you won't like, just so you can talk through it, secure that no one else remember you and proud that you managed to upset so many people while remaining hidden. I don't really care at all what other sites have to say about our little project. We are, what we are. To a very few we are porn and to many others we are art. And of course there are those that like to call us names, say mean things or we are porn just to get a reaction out of others...those are called trolls ;^)... and we pretty much ignore those. Really we are doing this for fun and it has been fun. We're not competing with anyone. Really how could photos really compete. What photos some one likes is up to the viewer and not the photographer. We're not into this to be "popular". We're doing this to push ourselves creatively and that is all that really matters.

I like the "photo booth" approach...your daughter is the image of her mother...and from the looks of things, the two are at thick as thieves..lol..I'd wager the house rocks when those two get together. Bill...a question..when using the 20D, do you use parameter set 1 (default...with contrast, color, saturation, sharpening at +1) or parameter set 2? I find myself using the default for a lot of my work...just curious.

I thought I would try and join Alan and Pamela with my list of favorites but I find it impossible. After trying to be very critical and going thru all the photo's twice I couldn't get my list down to less than 30 fav's, But I think any list of fav's has to include 7-1, 6-18, 9-23, 7-5. Maybe at the end of this project Bill could share the number of hits on each photo. I also agree with Pamela that I'm waiting for a shot of Wanda riding Belle. Bill, I can't say that I'm surprised at all the negative comments, given my experience with the general public. It is a shame you and Wanda have to put up with them, though. Anyway, I just wanted to express my amazement at how you two keep coming up with the ideas and the time to implement them here. Really, really great stuff. The last few pictures for October were really nice...though given the playfulness that Wanda exhibits with Halloween, I've been having this vision of her dressed up as a Turkey in one of your shots..grin. Bill, for what it's worth..I purchased and downloaded Fred Miranda's Velvia Vision Plug-In for Photoshop and have played with it a bit...a good, good match for the 20D. Thought you might be interested. Can't wait to see your first shot for November!

I have on occasion heard references made as to the difficulty of coming up with new ideas for the photos to stave off a stale feel to the gallery. I would just like to say that I feel you are both doing an outstanding job of "shaking it up" and keeping it fresh and interesting. The halloween image is great and I must believe Wanda is a good "witch" :) Thanks for the pictoral journey, Bill and Wanda. I'm having fun watching.

Bill and Wanda, I am fascinated by your galleries, this is at least the second time I have stopped by. Forget the criticisms and get back to work. I agree to an extent that all people love a good looking woman, however, you and Wanda have gone far beyond that. I will be coming back more often for the spectacular views. I may have overlooked it in the postings, but did you ever mention the area in which these pictures were taken? The serene snowy pond is gorgeous and the other water sites and fields are breathtaking. The portraiture is fabulous and I who am a novice at best, am captivated by the colors and how vivid they appear. After all the time spent on this project, which camera and film would you recommend for the ease of a newbie? Thanks, jack

Hi Bill. For what it's worth in regard to ideas for shots...have you thought of doing some images of Wanda as one of her favorite movie or book characters? Or out-of-character shots like a rock start? Or period shots from historical eras? Or the abstract forms shots similar to Edward Weston's work? Thought I'd throw in a few thoughts...it HAS to be hard (as you've mentioned) to keep coming up with interesting ideas for images. Have a good one. John

David, it is a challenge to come up with an idea and to take a picture everyday; but, that is exactly what we do. If you check the EXIF DATA it shows the time and date for each photo. We don't have a stock pile of photos. Sometimes we do have a stock pile of ideas and sometimes, like today, we don't. On busy days like last Monday you get a snap shots like last Mondays. Most day we put a little more thought and time into the photo.

This is for Scott who says he won't be back. Oh how I wish that were true but of course it wasn't. He brought up the tracker thinking it was some sort of security device. Boy how clueless is that. We put the tracker on to gather important demographic information about our viewers. Gee, I wonder why someone would want that. We are finding where our viewers are from. We're learning when you view. Most important we're finding where and how you found us. What types of key words you use in search engines. We know where you go in our galleries what you look at and what you go back and look at again. We know what type of system you are using and most important to me I know what resolution you are using to view the photographs. Now to disappoint poor Scott. On average a photo is viewed about 1100 times in the first 24 hours. It doesn't matter whether it is a glamour shot or a picture of hand with a cat. The good photos will continue to get another 200 hits a day sexy or not sexy. We average about 13,000 views of all pictures and galleries. That is very consistent no matter the image. Our highest day was Sept 18 with just over 125,000 (no I didn't add a zero or misplace the comma) views. Reason for that increase was because Glen Reynolds athttp://instapundit.com/ mentioned us in his BLOGhttp://instapundit.com/archives/week_2004_09_12.php in just a line on Sept 17 at about 11:00PM. Thank you so much Glenn. Goggle is by far and away the preferred search engine and "Wanda" is in the vast majority of the search queries. Our average viewer is from the United States, with a pretty good viewership in the other English speaking counties of the world, uses Windows Explorer 6 to view, operating system is Windows XP, views at 1024x768 in 32 bit color. Eighty two percent of our viewers are regular viewers. More of our viewers look in during the morning but really it is pretty evenly spread throughout the day. I think that is because we regular viewers in about 80 countries. (HI to our two daily viewers in Iran) Ninety Eight percent of you are java enabled (no I won't be doing a java site anytime soon) I could careless about peoples IP addresses but some may find this interesting. Our "guest moralist and perverts" are only three or four people out of about 12,000 regular daily viewers. The quests change names often sometimes a few times a night to support thier on lame point of view. Some on the web would call them a "Troll" and we don't feed trolls. All in all, 5 jerks out of 12,000 regualr daily viewers isn't bad. I guess there is hope for the world. My ramble for today.

Bill & Wanda, First time visitor to pbase and discovered your site in popular galleries. Other than paying accolades to the ego it seems without purpose. I know that this is a free country and that you and your wife have the right to do as you please but I felt the need to leave this comment. Read it, delete it, think about it, disregard it, doesn’t matter to me but your idea would concern me if I were the both of you. I have to agree with many of the comments that state a strong, healthy relationship would not head down this road and that is really just not an opinion. I see in one of your responses that you indicate that you are using a web tracker to id those whom visit your site. Please don’t be fooled with this security feature regardless of what tracker you think you have people have the ability to easily cloak themselves. I did not take the effort to hide my identity but it is very easy to accomplish. That would be one of my big concerns there are way too many nuts in the world to display so much privacy on the net. Viewing the images of the site and reading many of the comments, especially your’s and Wanda’s I have no doubt that Wanda has been a wonderful wife. Again I would worry about the stress these images pose to a marriage. Maybe not today but I have to believe that at some point the stress will appear and the damage will already be done. I have seen other comments that suggest many of you positive comments are to keep the reveling images coming. You and Wanda can’t be naive enough that you don’t agree with this? If you don’t think so try images showing no skin for last few months of this project and see how quickly your web tracker will drop in visit. I noticed that after many of the so called “negative comments” you rant and rave or other viewers take your side no need to for my benefit because I will not be back to read them.

Evidently, there are more than a few who feel we should all share the same cookie cutter, head in the sand mentality wherein we cover beauty up in shame lest we enjoy it. That is bad enough. But, when one starts insulting the people who do think more open mindedly and are comfortable with their God given appearance, by way of questioning their love for one another, the perversion is within the one who insists that they have the only correct and acceptable morality. Not one of these photos is exploitative of Wanda. So once again I must point out that only Bill and Wanda have the right to determine if the photos are appropriate. To insult and demean them for having a more upbeat and alive perception of decency is much more juvenile than any action a viewer could take. None of us have the right to impose our morals on others. These pictures represent art. It seems some people would destroy half the contents of the world's museums to insure we all viewed only what they specified to be acceptable. I feel without a doubt, Mr. Bates, that you honor Wanda with these beautiful images. And you, Wanda, honor Bill with your trust, faith, companionship, and support. What I see hear is a love that softly thunders and jumps from the images and spoken words. Please let none cheapen this beautiful interaction with ideas which have no place in a modern, fair minded, and compassionate society. Most of us know how strong you make each other. It's beautiful. 24 years.... I think the love is alive and well, and is a delight to behold.

Here are My answers to John's questions: The only thing I can think of that might be considered a "hurdle" is making time each day to take more than just a "snap shot". Obviously there are days when we have to settle for something lame like Me chilling on the couch with a beer. However, we both prefer to put more time into it IF and when we can. Has this project become more difficult as we have progressed? You bet it has! It's getting harder to come up with an new image each day. As we near the end of this project our viewers will just have to find it in their hearts to forgive us if we start to become repetitive. I haven't really discovered anything about Myself that I didn't already know, but I have been reminded several times how tender-hearted and overly sensitive I can be. Lucky for Me though, I also have this stubborn, independant, strong side that doesn't allow My feelings to throb for too long. I guess if anything, this project has illustrated what a wonderfully complex individual I am. (GRIN) Have I changed in anyway? Nah, I am still just ME. And I am STILL camera shy! I was hoping this project would get Me over that, but in a way, I think I have become even MORE camera shy. Weird eh?

John, you ask the toughest questions. Have there been hurdles...not really. Somethings have gotten easier like working out poses and lighting. The thing that is become much more difficult is coming up with fresh ideas and techniques. I was aware that would be the major task to overcome with this project. Photographing one subject everyday for a year is a challenge. Sometimes we come up with something good. Some days like yesterday we slack off a go with a simple snapshot. My strengths...boy another tough one... well I still feel most comfortable working outside with available light. Wanda is easier to work without side than an elk or grizzly bear. She takes direction. When we shoot outside we usually get home and find 75% of the photos would be OK to use as our PAD. Working in the studio is still tough for me but getting easier. Working inside is tough on Wanda...remember her body doesn't bend that way. Inside I take 75 photos and only 2 or 3 are worth working on and posting. Practice Practice Practice and someday I'll get it right.

The shot by the pond is one of my favorites so far this month...wonderful portrait. Snow, rain...geesh...77 degrees here in St. Louis today. Then again..I'd give up 77 for Yellowstone, mountains, etc. Ever shoot up at Dunraven Pass/Mt. Washburn in Yellowstone? When I worked up there always a great place for viewing bighorn sheep. Have a good one, looking forward to more of your work. P.S. Wanda..lace? Nah..just good fall colors and a warm heart.

I'll be sure to drop a line your way if I can get out to the canyonlands and the arches, though my dream is Yellowstone next summer. My wife and I will be celebrating our 25th, I worked in Yellowstone two summers while in school, and I truly miss the mountains. You asked for a brief bit about ourselves..I'm an AF brat, my father was a career AF NCO. We were stationed as far south as Mississippi and as far north as Alaska growing up. My dad was an avid photographer, and passed his love of photography and the outdoors on to me. My first camera was one of his first as well, passed down. It was an old Agfa Ambi Silette rangefinder. I "graduated" to a Fuji SLR in time, then on to Nikon gear, before life (I teach computer literacy, coach soccer basketball, and track, and have a wonder wife and two daughters) and processing costs started to eat into my photography time. Three years ago I bought my first digital - an Olympus C2100UZ, a great little 10X optical zoom with IS point & shoot. A year later I moved onto a Nikon Coolpix 5700, then a 10D, and now a 20D. Digital imagery renewed my passion for photography and my love for nature as well. The publishing editor at the St. Louis Zoo stumbled across my web site a year ago, and asked me if I would consider being one of their volunteer photographers, a chance I jumped at...I now do work for their calendar, magazine, website, and brochures. I also do a lot of photography at local nature reserves (Lone Elk Park and the World Bird Sanctuary in particular) and the Missouri Botanical Gardens. I've started shooting with one of my former students who is now a photography major in her senior year at Mizzou...it's not only an privilege to work with her and see her growth, but to see through her eyes as she develops her own vision of work. Bill..Wanda...ever do IRC? It would be nice to pick your brain "live" about your work sometime. Take care.

Bill, you should "ramble" more often. The realities you alluded to in the foregoing post are ones I have pondered, and occasionally lamented over for many years. It is true that the "normal" citizens of almost every nation have no desire to bear arms against, or conquer the citizens of neighboring lands. The hotheads and haters are the ones that make it on the nightly news because the news directors find peace and good will too boring to sell the products that drive the decisions about what the medium of television is largely wasted airing. Angry misguided poorly informed militants firing automatic weapons into the air makes better copy for the sensationalization of the world's violence than neighbors banding together to help those less fortunate or people just getting along and demonstrating common decency and compassion for one another. Greed, and the "My God is better than your God" mentality have caused the vast majority of the world's conflicts. Anyway your observations gave rise to my need to vent a bit myself about the state of things. I enjoy the gallery...galleries, and feel as others do that it is a joy to be invited into the lives, albeit vicariously, of you, Wanda, and the incredible beauty and grandeur that is the southwestern United States. I have spent my whole life in this region, and still feel I have vast yet unknown (to me) treasures to uncover and revel in before I pass from this existence. Your galleries are a refuge from some of the uglier aspects of this world. Thank you both.

John, if you make it out this way let us know. Spring time is really great for photographing out on the Colorado Plateau around Arches and Canyonlands. The Internet really is an amazing thing. It has made the world a very small community. I find forums like this remind me of the old neighborhood corner bar or café. Like any little bar there are people you like and there is that old grump or jerk that grumbles in the corner. You can come in and chat and share whatever you want with friends but you ignore the other chatter. The difference now is my friend can be on the other-side of the world. I think that this is a good thing. As the world gets smaller we will find that pretty much we are all the same. We have the same hopes and dreams. We want the same things for our children. We all think a pretty sunset is worth looking at. We really have no reason to fear or hate each other we're just not that much different. I know we all have leaders that for there own personal agendas thrive on us having mistrust and fear for people in some far off land. I find that sad. Is it any wonder that these same leaders what like to control and ban people having free access to the Internet. Those leaders lose control when I find out that my viewers from Iran are decent people just like I am. Alright enough of my rambling for the day. When you stop in and post how about you introduce yourself and tell us all where your from. I get to peak at your IP address with the tracking software and I know exactly where you are; but, the other viewers don't. So share with us a little about your world.

First, thank you both for your thoughtful response to an earlier post. I think what has amazed me about your project is the power of the Internet to further shrink the size of this small planet we inhabit (Bill, you alluded to this as well, and it resonated with my own thoughts). Well done photographs have always been able to evoke raw emotion from the view - the work of Galen Rowell immediately comes to mind - yet I think the attraction of your work is that not only are the images technically very good, they invite the viewer to share in a very personal journey of artistic growth and, I would imagine, personal insight. Your own abilities, and willingness, to make it an interactive experience through this medium only invites it to become increasingly intimate. I've never met either of you, but one gets a sense of who you are as individuals and as a couple (at least that's my humble opinion), and it engages me in your work. I do hope our paths cross some day..I'm still hoping to make it up to either Utah or Montana next spring our summer...if we do, the first glass of wine is on me..but only after a good day of shooting in the backcountry!

Sairus, Of course we get mad at each other now and again during a shoot. I have a very short attention span so I get tired of posing in less than a heartbeat. So when Bill stops to adjust the lights or the settings on his camera I get a bit grumbly. "are we done yet?" is a phrase Bill does NOT like hearing tumble from My lips. Of course it doesn't help that I say that phrase in My whiney, tired, frustrated, irritated voice. I also have a tendancy to snap at him and say " MY body doesn't bend that way!" But, even though we both suffer a bit of frustration from time to time during a shoot, and take it out on each other, when the finished project turns out to be suitable for posting, we are both happy! I always say to Bill after a shoot, "thank you for making Me look more beautiful than I am." It takes a lot of work to get the lights right and angle of the pose correct, so that the photo is flattering. OH, and I like to think we are the "perfect couple" too! After all, we have put up with each other for almost 24 years now! If Bill hasn't given Me the heave-ho yet, I don't think he ever will.

There are those other days where we have artistic differences and we do get mad at each other but we don't dwell on it and we don't stay mad long. John, I have spent the evening thinking about your question about our feelings at this point tin the project. I can tell you it has been fun. When we started I really had no idea how long it would last. I just wanted to take a picture each day for as long as we could stand doing it everyday. Somewhere I decided we would stick it out for the year. The negative and pious comments have firmed my resolve to complete what will be a year long project. How dare they try to stifle my or anyone else's art. I will say I'm more than surprised that this project has become so popular. It was never my intention to become "popular or famous" I just wanted to work on my skill at portraiture and this has really help me do that. One thing that I find amazing is the power of the Internet. I'm a pretty average amateur photographer. I always figured that the only people that would see my photographs were family, friends and a few people in my community. With sites like PBase my pictures are seem by people from all over the world. We have thousands of daily viewers from over 80 countries. I find that truly amazing and I think it is wonderful that places like PBase allow us, everyday amateurs, to get that kind of exposure. Like anyone, I like the thought that people like my art and it makes it all worthwhile. I can also say that I don't do this to make anyone else happy. I do it because I have too. I do it to make me happy and fulfilled. So I will continue on. I'll try new things and keep at it until I get it right.

John, in response to your comments I have to confess that I am still not comfortable in front of a camera, although I am more comfortable with My pictures being posted and having the world scrutinize Me. I have learned to push aside that tender, sensitive part of Me that would have been in tears by now from some of the harsh, judgemental comments made by less than compassionate individuals. I prefer to focus on the positive, supportive comments from those viewers who appreciate the work and effort it requires to complete an endeavor such as this. And for the "guest" who suggested I am guilty of narcissism, all I can say to that is, he obviously doesn't know Me very well. Do I enjoy having My ego stroked from time to time? Of course I do, what human doesn't! But My ego has nothing to do with this project. I am here to support Bill in his passion for photography and hopefully help him learn and improve on the talents he has been blessed with.

They usually use religion as the excuse, but in all likelihood, they just are uncomfortable with the fact THEY are the ones getting unduly aroused at photos which, by internet stansards, are very tasteful and reserved, and well within any sane persons definition of appropriate. I would be so INCREDIBLY proud if MY grandma looked as fit, relaxed, sensual, and full of life as Wanda does. Dirty? Wrong? ...hardly. More than a few of these holier than thou types are straight up jealous, Bill and Wanda. It's amazing their brains can drive their fingers to type. Please know many of us have the utmost respect and admiration for both of you, and the really very fun and enlightening project. we can admire Wanda's beauty, inner and outer, through the magic of your lense and your love for one another. OK, I spent some time thinking about it and well, I don't see a problem. My kids are all in support of our project and I'm sure it won't cause any harm to my grandkids. Of course, I'm someone that thinks most Victorian values over-sexualize and warp many people. Here is something I want you to think about. Do you think in tribes where woman walk around topless the boy or men in those area give a breast even a second look? I'm guessing they don't. I think you could call that a child like innocence. I seem to remember reading a very old book where getting to a child like innocence was the point. Of course I could be wrong. Warron is the perfect example of somebody that just doesn't get it. He is willing to blindly let other think for him. He suffer from insecurities and that is why he worries about other people having lustful thoughts about his wife. Guess what Warron unless your wife is pretty ugly or wears a berkka somebody has seen her and had lustful thoughts. Get use to it and don't worry. If she loves you and you show her the affection she deserves she won't be leaving you for somebody that does pay her that attention.

As a matter of fact, it usually shows a weakness in character when you try and impose your values on others. The world is a great place because of individuality, and the tolerance that most exhibit towards their fellow dwellers on this planet. NOw that we've gotten that out of the way, I think you should give some completely nude shot(s), and then stop the series. Some of the shots are terribly teasing, past the point of good taste (if it were MY wife, that is). So - let it all hang out, and then you ,might as well call it a day. As an eager (but only mildly talented) photographer, I find myself in awe of Bill & Wanda and their project. The technical quality of the photography is unmatched. Wanda's participation in the many photos (and I'm guessing we see less than 10% of the original work) is clearly as more than just a "subject". Bill is extremely fortunate to have a partner so willing to participate in a long and difficult project. That has to make the project easier - as I'm more than aware, it's hard to get out the camera and try for something special every day. So far Bill and Wanda are managing to be more consistent and put together much better photos than I. I saw references to a book in earlier comments. Put me down on the list of people who want to pre-order. Rob

As a resident of Utah, I see and hear on a daily basis the many attempts, even demands made by the morally (in their mind) superior types who feel the need to impose their backwards, restrictive and repressive views of what is decent and right on everyone around them. It is so bad here I have come to refer to the governing bodies here as "the Righteouslature". They are attempting to oust the student leadership at a smaller college near here for having the unmitigated audacity to bring film maker Michael Moore to the campus to speak. They want no view aired in this state that does'nt represent the knee jerk, rubber stamp conservatism this state reeks of. The same types are those who feel the need to fear and villify the beauty and allure of a woman's sexuality as being an accepable part of her public persona. Sadly, there is little hope of these squeaky types joining the current century anytime soon. Please keep carrying the torch of reason, rationality, and fairplay in this backward environment, William and Wanda. Many of us see straight through to the artistry and beauty, and realize only your own opinions of the photo's suitibility and appropriateness to share here is pertainent. I salute your forward and progressive thinking, and the sheer beauty of the photography.

I have looked all pictures you showed here and never had the feeling that Wanda had been missused in any dirty or undecent way and thus all people thinking bad or have dirty ways of seeing things should fuck off. Wanda is a wonderfull subject, and one knows very well that physical beauty is a very passive part of a human, and this part, wanda is maintaining it with a lot of work and care. It passes by quite fast, at least in the way that some people see and would like to see the beauty of a body. The fact that Wanda has accepted to be your modell and show herself in some of the most sexy poses is a real gift and one can see that a lot of comprehension and love is involved in this passionate common work. Gazbobs, I think some thought we over exposed ;^) Now I'm going to ramble a bit some on where this project is at; how the why we're doing has changed and maybe a little of what I'm trying to capture. I'll start with what I'm trying to capture. for sure I'm trying to capture the essence of Wanda; but, more than that I'm trying maybe to capture the average woman. Really none of them are average they are so much more. I would say Wanda is pretty average for an American woman. She is a mother, a homemaker, a confident, a councilor, a lover and wife. She has always had a job to juggle with family life. She has juggled those thing so very well. As a man I'm amazed how well woman do that everyday. She is a lover and a sexual woman and that is as it should be. She is a caring individual with a love of her fellow man, animals and she cares about the world around her. She reads and studies. She is political and spiritual. She went to little league games and yelled at the umpires. She never missed a parent teacher conference. OK, she is a very normal American woman and mom. I find interesting that some think it is horrible that I show the sexual side of my wife and the woman I love along with the everyday side of her being. If it was some no name pretty model I wouldn't take any grief from these pious hypocrites. Some how they have a problem with a wife and mother as a sexual being. I think it makes it worse for some because Wanda isn't some nameless model that can just be some piece of meat. Mom's aren't supposed to be sexual. Which when you think about it, is really silly. If they weren't sexual they wouldn't be moms. So, they can look at that pretty model and not know anything about them. They don't have to know that the model has a family, kids, a husband or boy friend. Nope it just some nameless pretty face. A worthless slut. So they can feel guiltless about their perverted thoughts. But Wanda is different. If you follow the project you have a feeling that she is someone. Someone you know. You know a little about her family and the person she is. Some how that seems to make it worse. Wanda isn't some nameless model. So, all of that confronts their view of the world and themselves. So here we are with a picture or glimpse of a complete Woman. Someone that is strong yet tender. Someone comfortable with herself as a sexual being. A completely average American mom, wife and lover. Showing just one facet of woman and motherhood isn't complete without showing the sexual side of that woman. It is that sexual, nurturing side that gives woman their great strength and makes them so wonderful. Why hide it? OK...that was my ramble for the day. Now I need to convince Wanda to add her usually much more articulate ramblings.

I find it hard to understand some people, critisising to me is as follows; William you over exposed, William you under exposed, the lighting was in the wrong position, Wanda should have turned a little more, you should have used a slower appature or i think you could have done with a little more time on that one Bill. People with to high self oppinion that force moralistic value down other peoples throats realy p**s me off! I think you have great patience with them Bill i realy do. I think it's great what your doing and it's not just to perv, to be able to take a different photograph of a single subject for a whole year is a tough task, especialy when it's the love of your life, and to take the critisising like what you are taking about someone you love as much as you do is even tougher. I couldn't do it, i don't think many people could or should. And to those self centred bigots who are preaching morals...you don't have to look, you could go and look at something else instead. For what its worth Bill I have enjoyed your gallery for over 2 months now and looked at all of the previous shots. Your work is amazing and no doubt Wanda is a stunning subject to photograph. The concept to shoot a POD for a year of your wife is a brilliant and challenging concept. The patience and dedication required by you both is commendable. As for the negative feedback, you could be taking a daily shot of grass growing and there would be those out there who take exception to it. Yes your wife is beautiful. No doubt you are honoring her by capturing that beauty as she honors you with her commitment to do this task. Yes returning to this gallery is further enhanced not just by your photographic skills, the engrossing feedback (lol), or seeing the Canon 20D at work, but also to see your lovely wife. As for the attire, Wanda has always appeared classy and has kept her grace and humility in tact. No doubt attributable to the woman she is and your talent with the lens. I think that some of the comments that are being labeled “negative” might be meant as constructive criticism. What I am trying to say is that maybe some of the comments are based in some truth that many viewers are coming to the site to see sensual images and not images of Wanda petting the cat or cooking dinner. That’s really not taking a prudish or judgmental stand could it be the truth? Who knows maybe the “negative” comments are coming from some one who really knows photography and trying to be kind rather than saying some of the photos are bad and others have no other content than sensuality. As a long time student and teacher of photography and knowing first hand how difficult it is to get photo stylebooks published unless you would be willing to foot the bill for publication yourself you are really facing a steep uphill battle getting published. Hope no one things this is “negative” because it is not meant so, thought maybe it would be an item for discussion.

Nazim, if you check the complete EXIF DATA it will show all the settings, Camera and lens used on any photo. But here is the list. Canon 10D and 20D bodies, Lenses Canon 50f/1.8,24-70f/2.8L,70-200f/2.8L IS, 400f/5.6L, 135f/2.8Soft Focus, Sigma 15-30EX and a Tamron 180f/3.5Di macro.

Robert, nope I don't and I haven't ever worked for National Geographic. I just wear the hat. Funny thing about that hat when I wear it while taking photos people bend over backward to help out. I have rangers tell me where animals were hanging out that they wouldn't tell the general public. They have asked others to move on and left me alone to photograph wildlife. I have had land owners let me trespass while telling other photographers to stay away. Last week in Antelope Canyon people that would blunder through other photographers 30 plus second exposures would wait and watch for me to be done. I think I'll continue to wear the hat ;^)

Warren I don't think I ever said that I didn't use sexy photos to attract viewers. I have said I have no problem with erotic, sexy or nude photos of Wanda, other woman or men. Sorry I have no hangups about the human form. I'm sure those types of photos are one of the many reasons people come back to this gallery. Of course there are many more galleries on Pbase with very pretty and very nude woman that are no where near as popular as "Wanda's Picture a Day" project. So just having sexy images isn't a key to popularity but it doesn't hurt. So, I guess just maybe, there is more here to offer than a few lingerie shots that people find interesting. I'm totally confident in any number of the images presented. Some are very good, some are so-so and some are barely more than snap shots. All of them show a little bit of Wanda, the complex woman she is and why I love her just the way she is. Which is one part of why we do this project. Now, how the images are selected for the monthly gallery thumb nail is pretty simple. I go with the photos that received lots of hits during the month and the one I like best. Pretty much the one with the most hits and what I liked best are the same. September is one of the exceptions. This was the most popular imagehttp://www.pbase.com/image/33469997 with just over 15,000 views. It is one I really wasn't that happy with and I thought the selected image says "Fall" so was better for September. I still feel that people that have problems with semi nude photos of my wife or any other model have no business forcing the rest of us to follow their narrow view of morality. I have always felt if they don't like it they really don't have to look. That seems pretty simple to me.

Dear Bill (William): I'm an amateur photographer/hobbiest (Ohio) and came across your wonderful photography on pbase while searching for photos taken with the Canon 10D cameras (I just purchased one). I admire (and am inspired) by your landscape and portrait photographs. I have a question (if you'd be so kind) regarding the Glamour shots you've taken of Wanda. I'm curious if you use some kind of soften filter on you lens(es) or apply some type of post-soften technique in Photoshop? My portraits tend to be too sharp and/or crisp and lack the subtle softness that your shots of Wanda do. If you post-process in Photoshop, I'd be interested in what types of techniques you use. Personally I think we are the lucky ones for you guys keeping going & my admiration for you both as the story unfolds & as your personalities come through just grows in leaps & bounds. Bill and Wanda, I hope all the crap people are posting does not deter you. If someone does not like your pictures, are offended by them or even does not find Wanda attractive, guess what.......Don’t look at the pictures then!! Someone mentioned Michelangelo before, and if I remember my history correctly, he caused a bit of a stir back then also! I think Wanda is a great model (and a free one to boot!!)I think she has a great inner child that Bill does a good job at capturing. I also think Bill has a great understanding of light, something I am bumbling with, I know some "guests" will think I'm kissing your ass, but so be it! It looks like Scott/Jennet/Jenny/Quest has been emailing and posting negative and scary personal attacks to some of my viewers for viewing my galleries. I'm not sure what kind of screw this person has loose but they can no longer view posts or post here. To those from Pbase thank you for the support. You should be able to view and post without some pathetic sicko bothering you. Wanda and I are going to keep posting and we will continue and finish this year long project. Heck the 25000 viewers that visit here everyday deserve that from us.

Let me add a little to my last comment. If someone wants to say they don't like a pose, a concept, the lighting or something that is photography related I have no problem with that post. In fact I appreciate those type of post. It helps me grow. If someone says they are offended by the content, guess what, I don't care. Those comments don't add anything to the discussion and I very well may delete them. That type of comment isn't negative. It is stupid. Why should I let it take up space?

For all I care you guys can do what ever it is you like in you photos and put them where you want. All that I am saying is I find it unusual that a husband would choose to photograh his wife to display in such a public way. People do all kinds of things in this world that I would not do does that make me any different that you? I am sure there are things that I do that you would not think of doing and would I care for you to say "I wouldn't do this or that." Scott....silly troll...trix are for kids. I find the technical aspects, of images that Mr. Bates makes, to be of superb quality. There are web sites set up for the expression of moral judgements, please visit them if you feel that the only comments that you can make concern the content of the images. I feel sure that Mr. Bates would be open to constructive criticism concerning the quality of his images (which I find more often than not, to be of professional quality). Perhaps you would care to provide a link to some of your photographs so that others may provide you with feedback on the quality of the pictyres that you snap.

I find it interesting that when you seemed to get stumped with what kind of image to make you resort to you wife being half naked. There is something really wrong about displaying your wife on the net in some of the outfits and poses seen in your galleries. I think many of your commenting viewers encourage you in hopes of seeing more and more of your wife. I have to believe that family and friends find it uncomfortable.

Famous...I don't think this project has made me or Wanda famous. More like well known in a very small circle of people. I never thought it would be anything anyone; beyond a few PBase PAD people, family and friends; would ever look at. We started this project just to force me to learn a little about lighting and a little about photographing people. To be very honest, Wanda and I are both very surprised this project is so popular and gets the traffic it does. With this project: we have learned, we have made some very good friend, we have had our spirits raised, and we have attracted a few weirdo perverts that make us laugh daily. We get a kick out of how this whole project has taken on a strange life of it's own. Overall, it has been worth the effort and a great experience. It will be interesting to see where it all goes in the months to come. To all that look in, we say a big, "Thank You."

You do a fine job of photographing her, and as a photog for over 20 years now I do have an eye for quality shots. when you combine the expensive paper and the special ink and the bigger size picture does it expose more of wanda? that just a joke, a little more serious suggestion thou is maybe u can try and take pictures of wanda when she is now "posing" or ready for the picture. Like an action photo, anyways just an idea cause i am sure u will need some to help u keep going for the next 6 months. Oh yah, you seem to be lacking pictures of wanda with her back turned, I guess that could go with the non posing idea. Winson, I sell prints depending on size and the type of paper the cost goes from $30US for an 8x10 to over $100US for 20x30" on fine art paper. All of my prints are printed on Epson printers using Epson Ultra Chrome inks. If properly displayed these prints should last a life time without fading. Trey, Thank you for the kind words and for looking in on our galleries. I'm not a professional photographer and most of the PBase photographers aren't. I'm an amateur that sells a photo now and then. I don't even have dreams of becoming a pro. I like the freedom to photograph where and what I want and Pros don't have that advantage. They have to photograph where and when the client wants. For me that would take the fun out of photography. My dream would be to have people think of me as more of an artist. It would be great if people would appreciate my photography for what it is: my joy of life and the world around me, a celebration of a wonderful and complex woman, or as just a pretty picture. It would be great to get to the point where people would want to buy a calendar, a book, a poster or print and have the proceeds provide a living; but, that would be just an added benefit. If that never happens that is OK. If people get some understanding of my life or their own, if a picture makes them have just a little bit better day, if a photograph makes them appreciate the world around us, I'm happy and successful. Here is plug for PBase. It has given my photography more exposure then was ever possible before the Internet. I have made friends all over the world. How cool is that? Since getting a Canon 10D digital SLR last year I haven't shot any film. I don't see myself shooting much film anytime in the future. Digital just has to many advantages and the quality of the output pretty much equals 35mm film from all but the very best slow speed film. Another big plus to digital is how it speeds up the learning curve. With digital you can look at the photo and go "gee that didn't work" and make a change right now. No more waiting for the film and trying to remember what you did when. Plus there is next to no cost to shot lots and lots of photos. Life is good in the digital world. It has been a few years since Wanda and I have been to Glacier. We really need to get back up there soon. This Fall is pretty booked. Maybe that needs to be on the list of places to go next summer. You asked about advice. I'm not sure I'm the person to ask. Heck, all I can say is go out there and take pictures. Maybe read a book or two to teach yourself the technical end of photography. Then go out and enjoy yourself. When you do, post them here or some other site so we can see how your doing. I love looking at other peoples photos.

William, A friend told me to look at pbase to see great pictures from professional photographers. I must admit, I am amazed at your talent. I understand you have been doing this for most of your life, but you have a great eye. The way you capture your subjects, Wanda included, is beyond belief. The lighting you use and the angles you select are incredible. Do you develop your own film or are you using a digital camera for all your pictures? I was seriously interested in becoming a photographer back in college. Well, twenty plus years later and I haven't gone down that path yet. What tips could you give a novice who loves photography and has a love for the outdoors? By the way, I enjoyed your pictures of Bryce, Zion, Yellowstone and the Tetons. It brought back great memories from childhood vacations. You have to get up to Glacier and take pictures there. You'll love it. Keep up the great work. Ed, we take a new photo, processes it and post the photo everyday. They only time a photo doesn't get posted the day taken is when we are traveling and away from the computer; but, we still take a photo each day we are traveling. Which does bring something up. We are just packing to leave for Yellowstone. We will be gone until late Friday. So, I'll take today (09/15/04) in just a bit and get it posted and then we will post pictures for Thursday and Friday either late Friday night or Saturday morning. I agree I think Wanda could pull off some vintage glamour with a little makeup and hair help. We have another six months to go on this project. You never know what we will do.

Due to the occassional inappropriate comments made by some of our "guests" it has been suggested that Bill disable the "comments" option permanently. While this seems like the best solution, it would deprive other non-subscribers the opportunity to share their thoughts. Reading the comments is half the fun of this project. I would hate to deprive My friends and family members that kind of fun just because a handful of pathetic individuals feel the need to beg for negative attention. So for now, I believe Bill will just continue to monitor the comments, deleting the ones that may offend our other viewers and disabling the comment option when necessary. I apologize if an occassional comment offends any of you before Bill has a chance to delete it. RT, you should take a day this Fall and drive over to Utah and hike Little Wildhorse Canyon. It is just a bit south of I-70. It is just 5 miles west of Goblin Valley State Park (which is one of the strangest places on earth)over a good graded dirt road. It is close enough to Glenwood Springs to make it a day trip. At least you should spend a day or two around Moab.

If they don't apprecitate your work, they don't apprecitate photography and how much creativity it takes to do this on a daily basis. Negative comments don't bother me much and sometimes they are helpful. Also, you don't need to apologize for the out burst. I more than understand how you feel. Now just for "Guest". We have been averaging about 13,000 views per day for the last four months and now we have somewhere over 1.8 million views in the last five months (Wanda deserves all the credit for the traffic). Martin, I have been taking pictures off and on for about 35 years. I only got serious about photography about three years ago. Before that, it was mostly just snap shots for the family album. I read a couple of books and I really like the "National Geographic Photography Field Guide". I'm not aware of any online classes; but, I'm sure that somebody that checks in here will have some help for you on that. I really think practice is the key. Also, develop your own style and don't worry to much about what the rest of the world thinks of your photos. Make yourself happy and most of all have fun.

Bill, How long have you been a photographer? I recently caught "the bug" and alot of times I'll take a pic that I think is ok, but when I look at photo's by people like yourself and Shaun Lowe, I am humbled!! I have an schedule at work that makes it difficult to attend most conventional classes, would you know of any good on-line courses? Thanks for you help and keep up the amazing work.......oh and by the way Wanda is a hottie!!, thought I dont think I need to remind you.

Just had an idea of a pose so am sharing. Can have a pic of wanda meditating. The main idea of the pic shall be to show peace. Most of all peace and calm should be evident from her face. See if this is an acceptable idea.

I agree with you Wm. You should delete undesireable comments. Anyone who comments in a distastful way should be banned from the site. The only problem is they don't have the nerve to use their e-mail address. We have learned a lot about taking photos from the way Wanda is posed, lighting and man other helpful hints. You and Wanda are to be commended for taking on this project and the time you put forth. I can only imagine the fun you have with this project.

One other thing that gets deleted are comments that are just there to show a link to another sight. Sorry, if someone wants to advertise their website they can pay someone else and post it there. They will be deleted. This does not mean that people that include their Pbase gallery as a normal course in their signature line will be removed. That is OK by me. I encourage everyone to click on the names of other Pbase users that comment here and enjoy there great photography.

Wanda Lover, I don't delete comments that are constructive criticism or even just plain negative. Those comments are very welcome and appreciated. If someone wants to make a comment and tell me how I might improve a photo great. Someone wants to say something like, "I don't like this picture" fine. Everyone is entitled to there opinion. I do delete childish crude, crass and personal attack comments that don't add anything to the discussion. That is more than reasonable. And this will be my last comment and response to you. Normally this is the type of thing I would just delete and ignore. That is because this is the type of comment that is posted by someone trolling for comments and attention. I don't play that silly game and I would ask the visitors to my gallery to please do the same.

What a wonderful concept to share your life with a most beautiful and extraordinary woman. You are truly blessed and now so are my eyes. Her charisma is captivating and haunting at the same time. It is amazing you are still breathing because she took my breath away. This has motivated me to try the same with my beautiful wife who also looks 15 to 20 years younger than her age. You tell a little about each photo, and sometimes discuss possible alternatives. You discuss what you like about the shot, and why you selected it. Thanks for taking the time to post the comments. Bill this is really nice stuff. The attractiveness of your spouse/model is matched by your skill with camera and lighting. All of the images are tasteful and would grace any wall in you home. Simply terrific model and photographs. I am impressed with Wanda's expertise in make-up. You are lucky to have a model that can throw so many looks. So far 6-12-04 is my favorite. I came across this gallery when perusing the "popular galleries" page. Wanda, dearest, were you married when you were 12?!?!?!? Goodness you're LOVELY!! As well, I'm incredibly impressed with the scope of the photographs. A lot of photographers have a specialty, such as figures in outside lighting. Yet, you capture the lovely Wanda in outside lighting, in a pool on a sunny day, in the bedroom, etc. I just wanted to say that I'm impressed with photographer and subject, and I hope that the "Wanda a day" has been a fun project!!

The PAD-idea has spread like a disease and not every gallery can be called at least ambitious. I got into contact to your pics of Wanda on a random pic search and was infected on the first sight. Not only that you are a really lucky guy to call that beautiful and gorgeous woman your wife, you also got the artistic attitude to make every single photo something very special. The first thing in the morning when I reach the office is to take a look at a new pic of the most photogenic lady here and that keeps me in good mood for the rest of the day. One of the options on Pbase is the ability to only allow only Pbase subscribers to post messages on your site. Wes has decided to use that option to avoid the stupid "Guest" comments. I sometimes wonder if I should enable that option and block all comments from outside Pbase??? Deleting the juvenile comments is a minor pain. At this time they just aren't that big a deal. I would ask that everyone completely ignore the lame "guest" comments because they are just looking for a response. If you ignore them, like everyone else has in the rest of their pathetic little lives, they go away. At this time I will just continue to delete the off color comments and responses to those comments when I see them. If they become to much of a problem then I will enable the option to only allow logged in Pbase users to comment on my photographs and no one else as Wes has.

I hope you find yourself, if not really comfortable in front of the camera, at least able to take some pride and pleasure from the art you have been a part of creating. It can be a strain on a marriage if the husband/photographer hires models for glamour shoots. By taking on that task yourself - one which you appear superbly qualified for - you have enabled Bill to refine his art. Bill; neat project. If people will take their eyes off Wanda and look at some of your other galleries, they will appreciate that at your level, photography is really an art - not just taking snaps of babes. Terry, I can't speak for Bill but as far as I am concerned it will never be easy to complete this PAD challenge. I suppose as time goes by I am learning how to follow Bill's instructions a little better but I will never be totally comfortable in front of a camera. We still butt heads from time to time when we have a difference of opinion but so far there has been no blood shed. (grin)

Bill, Wanda, this gallery continues to amaze me. Both Bill with his photographic skills and the way Wanda, who has stated she is not that comfortable in front of the camera has warmed up to task. The mixture of images in all of your galleries is amazing Bill, in qality, subject matter and the way you present them and then of course there is Wanda. Your talents are very obvious in looking through your galleries and the portraits you both combine to present in this gallery are tremendous and Wanda appears to be a natural now. Getting all aspects is the plan the good, the bad and all that make her the person she is. But She wanted some "pretty" pictures before I posted the no makeup, coffee cup in hand, wearing and old bathrobe realistic type photos.

Hi Bill. Wanda is beautiful, but I hope that from 365 images you will find that you'll be able to take so many different aspects of her. Not just the racy and glamorous, but also the sad, moody and comical too. Its a great challenge. Welcome to the House of Fun!
