Just came across some information you sent me in 2002. That means it is about time I dropped you a line :) I sold my last bike (XR650R) about a year ago and still miss it on a nice riding day. Hope you are enjoying your retirement as much as I am !!! Regards... John D

Hi Ian,
I emailed you a couple of years ago. About a stained glass memorial window at St Simons & St Judes Anfield Road Liverpool. In memory of a son and rest of crew, pretty sure it was a Halifax Bomber.I was at its dedication in the Boys Brigade 10th Company. Went back to the Pool with my wife and eldest daugher. The church had been demolished and am still looking fo the window. Your site is terrific and I regularly go through it hopefully. Thank You once again and Very best Regards Ken Berry. We live in Christchurch now as our three daughters husbands g/childen & g/g/children are all down here.

Anita,Another curious hobby, from the immediate post war period,my father used to make radios,as a hobby!
Ian Dalgliesh06-Nov-2013 17:54
Anita, just thought of another link.Your first radio was a Phillips; my mother's maiden name was Phillips. How weird is that?
Ian Dalgliesh06-Nov-2013 17:51
Hi Anita,Sadly we're not related to the shop owner,we spell our surname "ie".But,there are a few curious links to your tale.1.John Cooper used to work at the same place as my maternal grandfather.2.During the war my father was taken out of Glasgow Uni.and brought down to London,to test radio components at a firm called Morgan Crucible Co.,then beside Battersea Bridge, just across the road from the place where later John Cooper and my grandfather worked.Lastly,my father when staying in London during the war, stayed with relatives at 9,Havana Road,SW19,just off of Durnsford Road and no more than 1/4 mile from Arthur Road. Also,my little sister now lives in Somerset Road,SW19.Who'd have thought it.?
Anita Spink 03-Nov-2013 08:46
Hi Ian. I've just viewed the photo of Arthur Road Wimbledon on John Cooper's website and noted your comment about Dalgleish Radios. Are you related to the owners? My family home was 92 Arthur Road and I bought my first transistor radio - a Phillips costing £14 - from the shop in about 1964/5. It took months to save the money!

Fantastic series of photographs documenting the Wealdway: Some stunningly beautiful images. Oooh Itw as just like being there Ian. Fantastico

Your photography is very impressive; much of it reminiscent of Stanley Kubrick (whose cinematography I admire particularly that of the film Barry Lyndon). With Rangers in the Irn Bru rather than the champagne league can we expect on the spot action photography when they play at Annan's home ground?

Hi Ian. Thanks for all your recent comments, much appreciated. How is Romford weathering the current economic crisis? Will try to respond when time allows. Regards.

Hi Ian.
Brilliant pics, just spent a few days on Dunstable downs and was V impressed with Totternhoe castle so I googled for pics. It's difficult to give the feel of a place like that in a pic, the spectacular views always seem to get flattened, but your pics were by far the best (other than those from the air of course). Thanks for sharing (I know what a pain it can be downloading umpteen pics!)
I make longbows so I always view castle tops from a perspective of 'how far would an arrow read from here'! (Google 'delsbows' if you want to see my bows)

How do I get permission to use some of your fantastic photos? Since retiring I joined a watercolour painting class and always looking for extra special photos to practise with - though your photos are worth framing on their own!! Views along theRoding Valley in particular.

Seeking permission to use some pics of essex in a slide show on my website for the Pudney Family from essex.
I live in australia, so unable to take any photo's.
Your photo's are great and would look really nice in a slide show.
I will make sure you have recognition for them.

Views along Roding Valley and Missallaney "representative" gallery images would make
two nice wall hanging hung together because of the colors in the two that match. I was
looking at the recent galleries you worked on when I saw this and thought I would let
tell you.

Thanks, Ian, for the generous remarks on our England gallery back in mid-March. Your encouragement was much appreciated. My ancestry is Scot, too - Dunlop in Ayrshire. Unfortunately, we don't have a gallery from there; by the time we reached Scotland, we'd run out of time, money, and empty flash cards (they were expensive back in 2004). Certainly hope to get back to the UK someday soon; your photos and others have made us realize how much more there is to see. In the meantime we'll keep adding to our Wisconsin/Minnesota galleries. Thanks again.

Ian, thanks for commenting on my photos. To get involved with stuff as weird as this ( ) shows great courage. Please continue making similar inputs as long as you can endure it: I need all the hits I can get. :-)
