Dendroica pityophila
Two subspecies of Olive-capped Warbler are sometimes recognised, separately on Cuba, where the species is restricted to highland evergreen forests of the far west and extreme east, and the Bahamas. However, differences between them are rather marginal and not all taxonomists recognise anything other than the nominate, which was originally described from Cuba. This bird, photographed in La Güira National Park, somewhat unusually descended almost to ground level in the understorey of the pine forest affording some good opportunities for photography. Many times the birds remain frustratingly high in the pines.
