Quite a place, and quite the memories! I studied music pathology there with Prof. Schickele until I got sick of it. Finished my studies online through SNDU at H, proudly graduating with the online degree in 1983. Minor in Comparative Religious Iconclastia. Schickele taught that course work as well.

Wow! They've done a lot with the campus since I last saw pictures of it in the early 1980's! Just to be clear, USND at H is not at the Hoople, ND on most of the maps, but at the Hoople in Southern North Dakota, which is a bit more difficult to find.

I can't believe that this venerable institution is being besmirched by so many on this forum. Can't find it? It's south of Dickinson and west of Hope, and when you approach the Tin family's place along the enchanted highway, hang a left and follow the signs. If you happen to see Maestro Schickele, do give him my best would you?

what a bunch of schmucks. go to Amazon and order THE DEFINITIVE BIOGRAPHY OF P.D.Q. BACH. it is a hilarious work filled with satire on music, scholarship, composers, and academic architecture (among other things). Also, Schickele is not only a well trained classical musician; he is a first rate comedian, as well.

The only school in Hoople North Dakota is Valley High, where students from Crystal and Hoople attend. The elementary school is located in Crystal. Both are located in the North Eastern corner of the state. I graduated from Valley high, so I know that there has not been an University in this town.

Of course there is a USND at H. All you need to do is listen to some recordings of work by the 18th-Century composer P.D.Q. Bach (youngest bastard son of J.S. Bach) to know that. This is the university where his life was most heavily studied, by Professor Peter Schickele (of the musicolology and music pathology departments). It is one of the finest institutions in the country to attend, if you intend to study musicolology with Professor Peter Schickele (not to be confused with the serious composer Peter Schickele).

There isn't a University of Southern North Dakota. This is someone's idea of a gag against South Dakota State University in Brookings, S.D.

Where is "Southern" North Dakota?
