Tim so glad to learn of your blog through Cindy's Chrismas Card Jim and I were shocked to
learn of your lymphoma, there were a few brief days when we thought that was going to be Michael's diagnosis. Oh how we prayed that it was that rather than stomach cancer. I am thankful for you that you have responded well to treatment. We know waiting for those pet scan results are heavy days. You will be in our prayers faithfully now that we know. I am very limited as to travel due repeated failed back surgeries. Jason and Kristen both live within a mile of us. Jason desparately wants to get back to Jax or Orange Pk. to be near his three children. He is a gifted speaker, and youth minister (ours) and great with computers. He lacks the formal educational for many things, but we pray God will find a place for him soon. He is on the road at least every other week. Kristen moved to
Dade City also when Michael was sick. She is a few houses down from us and just had her 3rd son. Thank Cindy for the card, updating us. We don't want to lose track of you. Now I am going to enjoy your photos. We hope to hear you keep getting stronger! Judy Renault

Hi Tim,
I met you at 21st Century Oncology on August 4th the date of your final treatment.
My name is Barbara and I was having my port flushed and we struck up a conversation and you showed me some of your photographs on your mini netbook.
Haven't really looked around your site yet, but from what I have seen thus far you are very talented and the photos are clean and beautiful.
I have some local artist/photography friends who have a sort of networking going and I wondered if you would be interested in that.
I will register so you can respond via e-mail.
Take Care & Take Christ, Barbara

Love your shots of Crosby. I love sports photography and would love any advice you have. I'm torn about gettng the Canon 100-400 Lens vs using my trusty 70-200 2.8 w 1.4 extender. I need reach for my outdoor sports like soccer and field hockey but need to know this extra $ will help me over my current setup.

Also your site looks awesome. I thought my design done with Zenfolio was good but PBase looks great.

Tim,

One terrific website! I just love all of your photos, they are awesome! The photos you took of the organ are fabulous of course, but your travel photos and nature photos really speak to me. You were much too modest when we spoke. Of course the photos you showed me on your camera gave me a clue, but still did not prepare me for this incredible collection of outstanding photos!

Thanks for the organ photos, they are exactly what I needed for the digital display at the organists conference next week in Sarasota.

At times like this I find myself stumbling trying to find appropriate adjectives, but coming up short. They all sound trite when compared to your artistic creations. Forgive me for sounding like a bumbling idiot, but you rock!

Guest 28-Mar-2005 01:35
Tim,

Forgot to mention the question you had about shooting data. Almost all my macros with the 300mm are shot from f/7.1 to f/11. Occasionally I will push it to f/16 and f/22 but at those apertures, shutter speed really becomes an issue. I would say the majority of my shots are at f/8 and shutter speeds from 1 second to 1/15th second. Except for the butterflies which where shot in bright light and higher shutter speeds. You would thing wind would be a problem at those shutter speeds and you would be correct. I mainly shoot pre-sunrise and post-sunset when the wind is at it calmest. I have to pass on many shots because of wind movement. You really have to pick your days and have plenty of patience.
Guest 28-Mar-2005 01:29
Hello Tim,
Thanks for viewing my images and leaving such generous comments.
About the 300mm lens for macro:
I developed that technique some 30 years ago when I first attempted macro. I was never satisfied with the close working distance and shallow DOF when using a 55mm macro lens. I already had a 300mm lens that I used for birds. One day I just tried the extension tubes on the 300mm and was very surprised with the performance of that combination. It allow me to keep a good distance from the subjects and gives such a wonderful bokeh. I shoot for the background as much as I do the subject. The only negative with that setup is you must use a tripod for every shot. Another secret to successful macros with the 300mm is to use the camera's self timer and anti-shock feature. The D100 does not have a mirror lockup. It has a feature, anti-shock, that trips the shutter at a predetermined time after the mirror vibration has subsided. It works amazingly well. Another good feature of the 300mm f/4d ED-IF is the Extra-Low dispersion glass, "L" glass in the Canon lens. These lens are far superior than all the macro lens that does not have this glass. Of coarse all the above is only the start of getting those great shots. Post processing is the other half and probably carries more weight than the original image. Down sizing those images and keeping the clarity and color is the weakness of most photographers I see on the Web. If you have any other question feel free to drop me a note at rgaubert@eatel.net

I saw your link on DPReview and the Jax skyline got my attention. I am also a (lifelong) Jax resident and it is remarkable how similar some of our pictures are. Look at my galleries of St. Augustine and the Balloon Fest - I guess great minds think alike! I also have the Sigma 70-300. The entire "Jax Zoo" gallery was taken with it.

Craig 01-Jun-2004 06:16
Very nice pictures and also from your perspective. I was beginning to think I was the only Christian that posted on this site. The pic of the Jacksonville Jag running back impressed me the most because of it's clarity especially at 400mm. What type of lens did you use for that?

As good as these pics are though, I'm still not convinced that DSLR cameras have any better clarity (out of the camera) than the Olympus cameras I am currently using. True the DSLR's have much better lighting and more natural. But better resolution and clarity? I honestly don't think so. What do you think?

Also the pics of the little girls are so cute and the teens are cute too.

Best Regards,
Craig C.

It is because of your animal shots with the sigma that I decided to purchase a sigma 70-300mm lens. My images are not ultra sharp, but well worth it for the small amount of money I paid for the sigma. Take a look at some of my pictures & let me know what you think...http://www.fastuno.myip.org/
