The name literally means "new town on the wine route", as it lies on the German wine route (Deutsche Weinstrasse).
The town of approx. 50000 is located in the Palatinate, surrounded by a sea of hillside vineyards. Its many attractions include a
historic Old Town Center with winding alleyways, and the nearby Palatinate Forest Nature Park with a network of well-marked hiking trails.
