This is an ice man. Walt recorded for posterity how they used tongs to carry their blocks of ice into our house to be placed in the icebox. For those of you too young to remember, ice boxes preceded refrigerators. The ice needed to be replenished regularly. Ice trucks carrying loads of ice to the neighborhoods were a common sight. I remember chasing the truck with my friends on hot summer days to beg for ice chips from the ice man. The message here reminds me of a sit-down I once had with one of my daughters.
