Fia was found wandering the hills near Nine Mile House in Kilkenny. She had just had pups, and was emaciated. The pups were nowhere to be found, unfortunately. It appears she might have been dumped, and maybe the pups didn't survive.
There is a lot of noise working in a kennel, and it isn't often a single dog really sticks out to you, even though many of us had our favourites. But one day, as I was cleaning the main hall, I could hear some whimpering coming from the end of the kennels. It was Fia(named Berry at the time). I went to her and saw she was standing in the middle of the kennel. She looked around herself and then returned her gaze to me as she whimpered. I felt she might have been crying for her pups. It really made me sad.
I opened the door and sat in her plastic bed and reached out to her. She happily came to me and sat in my lap calmly. I decided to bring her to partner at the time, who eventually became my wife. She looked after her and Fia quickly became one of our own beloved hounds. She is since buried in Gurteen Farm next to Arlo, Shadow, Carlow, and several other hounds that lived on the estate. She will never be alone.
