Myra, Antalya, Aspendos - photos

First, to Antalya, stopping at Myra's Lycian rock tombs and next day to Aspendos Theater, considered the best-preserved theater of antiquity.  Near Demre (Kale), it seats 15,000, and the restoration efforts include the elaborate stage decorations.  With very good acoustics, it continues to be used today.

People here were especially prolific with these rock tombs and the
sarcophogus type (you can see one treasure-box style one here).
These are seen only in Lycian Turkey.

After I took these I tried to talk in Turkishto them and they broke out laughing. Wish I had gotten that.

The restored seats startled me, since I've become used to thinking that
the ancients sat on rough rock :-)
Some seats have been restored -- see bottom-right.
