This Tucson landmark was built in 1915 and was one of the first theatres in Tucson to exclusively present dramatic plays in Spanish. It was named for its founder, Carmen Soto Vasquez.
Note: This theatre was featured in "Boys on the Side" with Whoopi Goldberg

Growing up as a child n the late 60's and 70's I used to walk by this building everyday on my way to school. I used to live on Kennedy street, I always thought waht a beautiful building never knew the history of it.

Was this theatre also know as La Placita? - as I remember only Mexican movie house in Tsn. way back in 1945? somewhere around then - - - on Congress St. west, as I remember it.
