Clermontia are fairly common branching shrub-form lobelioids in some mid-elevation areas. They're usually quite attractive plants, with neatly arranged sprays of bright green leaves. Some species feature large bird-pollinated flowers, and fruits that the birds like to eat. Some species of native fruit flies complete their life cycles in the flowers and fruit of clermontias.
