Floating Eyes

Legs planted on the ground. Eyes staring from the bushes a couple of feet above. This is the Gerenuk. This long-necked gazelle, which means "giraffe-neck" in Swahili, has evolved to be able to feed on the taller prickly bushes and small trees. This image illustrates how difficult it often is to spot an animal in the bushes. Often similarly coloured to their environment and moving fleetingly in and out of bushes, it is not easy to spot wildlife in their natural habitat, especially from a long distance away. I don't think this image would have worked if not for its beautiful, big, black, beady eyes staring back from within this thorny bush.
