The Warrior we remember as the fun loving free spirit, who was loved by all who knew her, is gone. Carl Nelson has informed me that his wife of 36 years, Molly Chambers Nelson, died suddenly Wednesday - December 5, 2007.

MOLLY CHAMBERS NELSON died on December 5, 2007, at Virginia Beach General Hospital after a brief illness. She was surrounded by her family at the time of her death and passed peacefully. She was born in Memphis, Tennessee on January 9, 1945, and was predeceased by her parents, L. Glynn Chambers and Jean Carpenter Chambers. She is survived by her husband of 36 years, Dr. Carl Nelson; her daughters, Silver Nelson, Martha Newell, and Molly Ellen Nelson; son-in-law John Newell; and her grandchildren, Warnie and Brooks Conley, and Ophelia Ann Newell. Molly was a 1963 graduate of Central High School and attended Memphis State University where she was a member of Delta Gamma sorority. Although she moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia in 1979, she always considered Memphis her home. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was an avid gardener and volunteered for the Children’s Hospital in Norfolk, VA. A service will be held Saturday, December 8 in Virginia Beach, VA. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters, 601 Children’s Ln., Norfolk, VA 23507. As I grew up I heard so many stories of my mother's time at Central. I attended the 20th High School Reunion in her and my father's place on a visit to Memphis when I was 10 years old. I felt so welcomed there and cherish that memory. Thank you so much for that; she valued her time with you all so much. To anyone who ever knew her, may she always be remembered as "the infamous Molly Chambers." She certainly was that to us.

The sky here is grey and extremely foggy. The shock of seeing Molly's name imitates the grief and density of the clouds that are seen outside my window. Movement was not possible as I read about our warrior, and she was a warrior, Molly. Having the whole family with her was her greatest joy. Molly had told me about the east coast trip, certainly never one on a plane, with the girls and how she loved them. As the fog thickens my mind has stopped. Prayers are in my heart for all of us who have lost Molly and for her deepest loves , her children, grandchildren and for you Carl. As it begins to rain here your loss, and ours , is unimaginable.
