According to Eddy Gual, the photographer of this photo was Jay Quintero. On December 15, 1972, this Northwest flight took off as flight #723 on runway 27R at MIA and ran into a flock of seagulls causing engine #4 to shut down. They returned to land on runway 27L, which was significantly shorter in those days, and the aircraft ran off the end of the runway into the grass due to insufficient reverse power braking and friction on the wet runway.
