1962 - Miami High School Football National Champs' offense

Miami, Florida

Thank you to Lou Romano for contributing this great old image. Lou says: "This year the entire ’62 team was inducted into the MHS Sports Hall of Fame in recognition of the team’s undefeated season and being selected as Conference, State and National Champions."

I knew some of these guys. As incoming freshmen and aspiring football players, they were folks we looked up to. They set a very high standard!! Graduated in '65 with many great memories, both on and off the field. Miami was a wonderful place to grow up before Miami grew up. Watching the video "The Miami I Knew" was a fun trip back in time, I could comment on almost every cel of the video. Took a trip through my old neighborhood and Miami 5-7 years ago and was soooo disappointed it what it has become. I'll live the memories, thanks!!!

I new many of the 1962 Miami High players having gone to Kensington elementary and Citrus Grove middle. I chose to go to Miami Jackson which was the only school which did not lose to Miami High that year. Jackson, which was supposed to lose by 5 touch downs, ended the game with a 6-6 tie. I was the fullback for Jackson. After the game couch French gave my name to the papers as being one of the reasons we were able to tie Miami High. Unfortunatly, the papers put the name of someone else in my place. They did put in in later on a back page. That was a great game. The papers gave it almost a full page after the game was over. While this may sound unreal I still have the pictures and pages from the Herald. After the game my friends who played for Miami High were still my friends.
