Hjörleifshöfši

The tempel-like mountain Hjörleifshöfši (Saušafell) stands alone on the huge flats of Mżrdalssandur, east of Vik i Myrdal, on the southernmost coast stretch of Iceland.
Up until the 14th century this mountain had its foot in the sea, but there after deposits from 20 eruptions from the volcano Katla has pushed the coastline outwards,
so Hjörleifshöfši resides 3 km from the shore today. We spent 2 nights in our tent at its base.

Did you know that there is a old farm ruins on the top. And a very special grave, where the last farmer who lived there is buried.
