My connection with Bramshill is that I was born there in 1939. Not as as a son of the gentry or of the staff but because for 6 weeks it was used as a maternity hospital in the main for Portsmouth mothers. I was fortunate that the college invited me back to look round the hall for my 45th Birthday but as the weather was rather blustery I was unable to tour the grounds. I did see the chapel I was baptised in and took a photo that showed very little change to the post card my mother gave me. I wonder how many other babies born there are still about!!

Many Bramshill people were buried at Heckfield, rather than Eversley - for example, members of the Sumner family and the Perrotts.

I am sorry Heather, it has been a while since I have been there. I think I remember a chapel being on site, but not church. Others who have posted here, may know otherwise though. Regards. Geoff

Guest : My great grandfather Edward Barrett worked and lived on Bramshill estate as a sawyer until 1881 when he died. Is there a churchyard on the estate, I have been having great trouble locating where he is buried, having tried Eversley church first.

My parents bought Yew Tree Cottage when Lord Brockett sold the whole village in 1952. My great aunt's rent prior to the sale had been 4 pounds 12 shillings and 8 pence per year, I think! Auntie lived in part of Yew Tree Cottage until her passing in 1967.

I grew up at Bramshill Common. My great aunt (Polly Sumner) worked at Bramshill House during WW2, when the Red Cross were there. After the war, Prince Michael of Romania's wife (they were exiled there for a while) asked my aunt to cook for her, but she declined. Harry Newman was the gardener at Bramshill House for many years.

I worked there as a mechanical fitter between 1995-97 & allthough I didn't appreciate it at the time, have fond memorries now. It was allways a bit interesting getting called out in the middle of the night if the heating had packed up. Mick Higgs.

I am a Chinese police officer from Hong Kong seconded to the International Faculty Bramshill, Centrex in Hampshire from 2002 to 2004. These excellent photographs bring back my fond memories of wonderful people on staff or under training, chilly fresh air, big blue sky and white clouds, white stags grazing in green pasture; and not the least of the occasional annoyance of cows howling at night outside my staff quarter in Swift block. Thank you very much.

I worked at Bramshill in Security until a few years ago when i fractured my pelvis. It is such a wonderful place to work, with the history the gorgeous surroundings and all the staff and visitors.Was a sad day when i had to leave,but just had to smile looking at your pictures. Thanks

Bob H ....as a historian i would like to think you know what your talking about, you obviously do not ! i am very proud of who i am and where i come from . i can trace my family directly five hundred years which i am so grateful , let me discover my history before you just tell me i have none. we all have history good and bad ,some times we want to know , sometimes we don't,........i want to know and i do , i suggest you get a new job where you actually know what your talkng about :-)

I was a Merseyside Police cadet and in 1977 was posted to Bramshill when Mr Gaskill was Commondant there. We had two wonderful staff dining in nights during our stay and my family came up to visit whilsy we were there staying at a local farmhouse for B and B. Most weekends we would return to Liverpool driven back by either Mr Girvin and Crawford two senior officers. Whislt there we also played for the staff hockey team against RAF Bracknell . The first 5 weeks of our attachment we were accompanied by 2 guys from the devon and Cornwall Force and the second 5 weeks Donald from Surrey.

I am not English and have not been to England (such a lovely-looking country). My interest in Bramshill has been prompted by a pair of heavy brass bookends depcting the entrance to the "Old House". These bookends were passed down to me from the estate of a great uncle and are very old. I have wondered if anyone connected in some way to Bramshill would be interested in purchasing them. Or, I might consider donating them to a museum. Can anyone please contact me at my e-mail? Thank you.

Geoff your photo's are great. I now manage the Bramshill estate as Deputy Head of Centre and would be interested to hear from Anthony Cope and Jake Hester and anyone else who has lived and worked on the estate over the years. It is so beautiful and a fitting home for the Police Staff College.

I worked at Bramsill in 1964 in the Dining Room, remember the long walk down the driveway from the main road, and having the night watchmen knock on our doors for the 6am shift, and of course the lovely gardens, lake and boat-shed.

Thank you for telling me that Three Oaks is still there. Do you have any photos of it? The couple I stayed with had a son called John. I can't say my stay there was a happy one but that's another story. Many thanks

Dear Guest. Your letter 12/july 2010. Yes Three oaks is certainly still here! It has been our family home for the last 38 years and we love it. The house was added to in 1965 and again in 1984 by us,so it is somewhat bigger than you must remember.

To: Anthony Cope How lovely to know your ancestors lived there! In fact my ancestor also lived at Bramshill, although in the capacity of footman. In the 1851 census William George Easwell is listed as being employed by Sir John Cope. This is an incredible shot in the dark, but I am after pay records/ employment records to back this up further. Anyone know where I might find this?

I was evacuated to Bramshil in 1942 and stayed with a well-off family called Chesterman at their lovely home, Three Oaks. I am wondering if it is still there? Does anyone know?

I was evacuated before the second world war broke out from Portsmouth Hants and my godparents were Lord and Lady Brocket. The gardens in 1940 were full of stags and deer. Will try and pull some photos out. Bob H.

I do not understand how Jake Hester can claim that this was his family home. The whole ownership of the house is established from the 13th C to 1952 and no-one of that name appears.

In 1699 the property was purchaced by my ancestor Sir John Cope whose family continued to live there until 1935. Very nice pictures of a beautiful estate.

Jake, I think that you would need to contact Bramshill directly, and ask their views. I was visiting when I took these shots. Look up NPIA on the web - the contact details should be there. Geoff

I staid as a guest and student of the German Senior Officers Course in Bramshill for 12 days in 1996. It was an outstanding time! I came back on a motorbike tour through England in summer 2008 and wanted to refresh my personal memories. Unfortunately, they didn't leave me in due to the dangers of terrorism and other matters of insanity in our "modern times" - though I had service certificate and all other documents necessary with me... :-( So I have the possibility to refresh my memories on this site again, thank you!

i was a civilian electrician and I worked all over the Bramshill Estate in 1988. I remember that in the cold spring mornings when I was working in the cellars and in the attic and roof areas how atmospheric it was. The history of the manor house was heavily in the air. We always tried to work in pairs we we had to go to these areas just in case we met any of the previous residents :-)

I was at Bramshill 10 years ago for the first stage of my police training. Then I was single, now, I'm married with kids have lived nearly 3 years in New Zealand and am about to begin Teacher training here. When I viewed your beautiful photos I could smell the air there and remembered so many walks, runs and cold, misty, early mornings. It took me right back to some very fond memories. Thankyou.
