:: Colchester Half Marathon 2018. ::
North hill Stage
MORE than 4,000 people pounded the streets during Colchester’s eighth Griffin Chapman Half Marathon.
Lead by a £1.3 million Porsche, the runners started and finished the 13.1 mile course at Weston Homes Community Stadium, in United Way.
Spectators cheered on the thousands of runners who entered into the race to raise money for various charities.
Ramadan Osman was the first to finish, after an impressive 1h 9m
Organiser Liam Austin said: “It has been an unbelievable event.
There is a fantastic turnout year on year.
“I want to say thank you to the marshals, as this wouldn’t happen without them.”
Some runners had their own personal goals, which made the event even more special.
It was a chilly but dry day for the runners, but they soon warmed up and were able to pick up the pace.
The day started at about 9am and the first runners crossed the finish line at about 10.10am.
The event was organised by a group of volunteers from Colchester Colne Round Table, and it aimed to raise money for Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and MSUK.

In the heart of Essex, the rivers Chelmer and Blackwater blend into a navigation which flows

:: Tony Bramley Expo ::
Exhibition at the Digby Gallery Colchester
Suprematism was a highly geometric style of early 20th-century non-objective abstract painting, ignoring the familiar appearance of objects, developed by Russian avant-garde artist Kazimir Malevich (1879-1935).
In purest form, images are very geometric, against a white background, disclosing shape, line and colour, producing energy and dynamics. Tony is possibly the only photographer working in the Modern Art style of Pure Suprematism. Individual Suprematist works can be commissioned for companies as individual pieces of art for display.
Compositions are derived from a single photograph to produce a non-objective piece of work.
Tony is a Fellow of The Royal Photographic Society and holder of the RPS, Bill Wisden MBE HonFRPS Fellowship of the Year Award.Royal Photographic Society: The worlds leading photography body

During WWII Duxford was one of the most important air bases in Britain, and planes flying from here played a major role in the Battle of Britain. Today Duxford houses the largest collection of historic aircraft in Europe, ranging from WWI vintage biplanes to Spitfires, Concorde and Gulf War jets.
The collection of planes is augmented by several special exhibits, including The American Air Museum, which boasts the largest collection of US aircraft outside America. There is also a British Aircraft Collection, Battle of Britain Exhibition, Naval Collection, Royal Anglian Regiment Museum, and tanks, trucks and artillery in the Land Warfare Hall. Finally, 'The Forgotten War' Exhibition looks at WWII in the Far East, with special attention on the war in Burma.

:: The Colne Valley Railway ::
History Quote from Wikipedia
mid Victorian Colne Valley and Halstead Railway.
The railway occupies part of the former Colne Valley and Halstead Railway (CVHR), which opened in stages between 16 April 1860 and 10 May 1863. This part of the railway was a through line from Birdbrook to Wakes Colne.
The line continued to remain open until 30 December 1961, when passenger traffic ended. In 1965, freight traffic ended and the line was demolished a year later.
Preservation
The land was purchased in 1973 and the preservation society was formed in 1974. The first steam locomotive to arrive on site was No.WD190 shortly followed by No.72. Members of the preservation society began to operate the locomotives on a short section of line which attracted public attention. Since then the preservation society has evolved into a major tourist attraction and has one of the largest collection of rolling stock in the area.
Although originally a main line railway, the track was taken up in the late 60s, during the Beeching axe era, so when the railway was purchased there was no remaining infrastructure. The original Hedingham station was one mile away and was taken down carefully brick by brick the bricks were numbered so that it could be easily and correctly reassembled on the preservation site.
The Hedingham signal box came from Cressing where it was of an all timber construction. The top half was saved for preservation and a brick base constructed for it. The bridge crossing the River Colne came from Earls Colne in 1982.

St John the Baptist, or the Round Church Lt Maplestead, was built of the foundations of an older building in AD 1335

This Round Church is one of only two remaining in use at the present day.The Temple Church in London, which belonged to the Knights Templars, and the church at Lt Maplestead belonging to the Knights Hospitallers.
The Interior of this church was very dull, with limited light coming though the stained glass windows. But thanks to the new technology of my Canon EOS 5D Mk II, and the new Fujifilm X100S I was able to shoot these pictures. Hand held @ ISO 5000

:: Spring at Finchingfield ::
The village has a population of about 1,300 with three types of inhabitants: those who have lived and worked in the area all their lives; those who have moved to the village to work locally or retire; and commuters. There are many societies and clubs in the village, including The Finchingfield Society, the Horticultural Society, the Royal British Legion and Finchingfield Cricket Club.[1]
Finchingfield is regarded as a 'picture-postcard' village and one of the most photographed in England with a duck pond and village green surrounded by Georgian and medieval cottages; a church, St John the Baptist Church, which is on the hill; an 18th century windmill; three public houses; a hall; a primary school; a Post Office; a grocery store; and a doctor's surgery.

Clean sweep for Hannah Barnes in Colchester
Solo victory for MG Maxifuel rider puts her into Series lead post Round Two
Hannah Barnes took a dominant solo victory in Colchester, heading home MG Maxifuel teammate Karla Boddy for a one-two, helping her into the Series lead.
Barnes went clear at the night’s opening sprint and was never again headed, sweeping into the lead of the Johnson Health Tech Grand Prix Series and taking the race win and combativity award, whilst also holding on to the sprints competition lead.
Behind Barnes a select chase group formed, with Boddy leading them home ahead of MuleBar Girl – Sigma Sport duo Louise Mahe and Round One winner Natalie Creswick.
The lead ebbed backwards and forwards but the group couldn’t pull back Barnes, despite a number of big efforts, in particular from Champion System’s Sarah Byrne.
Victory leaves Barnes two points ahead of Creswick in the individual standings and a six point lead over Mahe in the sprint standings.

Team UK Youth stretch their Pearl Izumi Tour Series lead
Individual win for Jon Mould in Colchester helps UK Youth to fourth team victory
Jon Mould took the biggest win of his career to date, clinching victory in Colchester’s Pearl Izumi Tour Series round to give his UK Youth squad both the individual and team wins on the night.
The Welshman headed breakaway companions Richard Lang and Roman Van Uden, the latter who was tailed off in the closing laps, to take his first Pearl Izumi Tour Series win.
Behind the break Tobyn Horton led in the main field for fourth, with that and Niklas Gustavsson’s eighth helping UK Youth to another, narrow, win, ahead of Raleigh who took second, fifth and seventh for their three counters.
Team UK Youth now enjoy a seven point lead at the top of the standings over Raleigh, who moved back into second place, one point in front of Series debutants Madison Genesis.
The break of Mould, Lang and Van Uden formed approaching the second IG Sprint and built a lead that eventually stretched to over a minute, from a peloton which was steadily reduced around the testing Essex circuit.
A well timed attack from Mould with a handful of laps to go shed Van Uden, with Lang dispatched commandingly in the long final sprint up Colchester’s gently rising High Street.
There was consolation for Raleigh as Tom Scully took the evening’s Costa Express Fastest Lap while Lang was the Round Six IG Sprint winner. Alexandre Blain, who was prevented from starting with a broken finger, lost his IG Sprints lead overall as Kristian House drew level on 37 points, with Scully one point further in arrears.

Sofia's 3 weeks of vacation in Italy have been transformed in some wonderful photographs of the local landscapes of the Piedmont region... Torino, Cuneo, Fossano, Levaldigi, Caraglio, Cussanio, Saluzzo... these are just some of the names of the cities and small towns, or "paesi", as the Italians call them. The food, the people, the architecture... the ambience... all helps to forget about everyday routine and remember how beautiful life is! Please enjoy the gallery! And have a Happy New 2012!

:: Lost Time ::
I have been house bound for some weeks and have missed using my camera. However as I am gradually getting more mobile, this week I took my camera out of the cupboard, and made some shots of beautiful Lilies that had been given to me. I was surprised to see that the last time that I used my camera to photograph flowers at our Castle Park was the 11th June 2007. My shots this week were made on the 3rd of August 2007.
