Note: As I have a large number of photo galleries & photos at this website, I suggest you use an internet search engine, such as Google, on the terms 'hjsteed xxxx...' like 'hjsteed flowers' for a more rapid access method to particular photo subjects of interest.

Please note that I have a large number of photos in my Photo Journal Gallery that have not been labeled or described and copied into their respective individual photo galleries. I hope sometime that project could be completed.

Since I'm a longtime resident of Greenwich Village at Washington Square in NYC, the Lower Manhattan photo galleries at https://pbase.com/hjsteed/lower_manhattan in Manhattan Neighborhoods galleries are of special interest to me. My largest bank of photos were taken in this neighborhood. The Washington Square Park galleries are at https://pbase.com/hjsteed/washington_square and the people and street scene photos are at https://pbase.com/hjsteed/people__nyc .

Another major special interest has been nature photos. The flower and garden galleries by season are at https://pbase.com/hjsteed/plants_and_flowers . Convenient A-Z plant reference galleries can be found at https://pbase.com/hjsteed/flowers_only and https://pbase.com/hjsteed/foliage .

On my notebook computer, I find the Slide Show and Large viewing options best for scanning individual galleries. The 'Original' viewing option is best for details. The photos look best when viewed in full screen (hit F11 key with Windows computers). The viewing options are provided at the bottom of each photo. A large display screen reduces the need for excessive scrolling. Just click the images on this page for photo galleries to the related subjects.

As I continue to learn more about digital photography and my photo subjects, I would appreciate your comments and corrections for any of my photos or galleries. If anyone recognizes their photo in my galleries and wants it removed please send me a message and I will remove it immediately.

My purpose in providing these photos is solely for a learning experience and for enjoyment. I hope you enjoy all of these galleries.

On July 25, 2012, the New York City Council voted to allow NYU to destroy children's playgrounds, public park land, a dog run, and gardens including the landmark Sasaki Garden and the LaGuardia Corner Gardens for the construction of several new skyscraper buildings on the NYU super blocks south of Washington Square Park. There has been strong opposition from the local community, local NYC Community Board, NYU faculty members from 37 schools & departments, the Greenwich Village Society for Historical Preservation and local businesses against the NYU2031 plan, but aside from the local Community Board, the NYC Government disregarded those objections and gave NYU permission to destroy these vital green and open spaces for high rise buildings in the heart of historic Greenwich Village. Legal proceedings are pending to stop this private use of what is essentially public land.

Click https://pbase.com/hjsteed/photo_shoot_120406 for more photos and http://savewsvsasakigarden.blogspot.com/ for more information about this ill conceived plan and NYC Government action. Photos there will show a sample of what will be lost if the NYU2031 Plan is executed.

Also see https://pbase.com/hjsteed/laguardia_place_community_garden for updates & more references to the status of the NYC/NYU2031 Plan.

On August 29, 2012, I set up a Facebook page. It can be found at http://www.facebook.com/hubert.steed.9
