Southern Carmine Bee-eater

(merops nubicoides)
The Southern Carmine Bee-eater is one of the most stuningly beautiful birds that you will find anywhere. It is an amazing sight as it swoops from a perch to hawk large insects and the sound of a large group of birds calling together in wonderful. It breeds colonially in nest holes in river banks. Photographs taken on the Kavango River near Shamvura Lodge and at Shakawe Lodge.
