We are preparing for a hard freeze tonight and tomorrow night. For the longest time I wanted to have a remote digital thermometer and today I picked one up (Taylor model 1730) at Ace Hardware. My real intention was to put the sensor in the refrigerator if the power goes out. It happens about every year during freezing conditions. I bought a small Jackery Portable Power Station which is rated for 1000 watt hours. My fridge is 850 watts. If all is up to snuff, I can run the fridge off the power source for about an hour. My idea is to watch the temperature in the freezer and plug the fridge in when it gets to freezing. Hopefully, we won't have to find out if I got it right.
Today's photo is my new thermometer and our outside analog thermometer. The white thing at one o'clock is the external sensor for the remote thermometer. The analog and the digital thermometers seemed to be within a couple degrees of each other.

If the sensor does not transmit through the metal of the freezer. They sell them with the sensor on a thin wire. That works I have used one. The thin wire does not interfere with the seal.
