Snowshoe hare (Lepus americanus)

Found this guy in the same place as I saw one last year, a nice protected site. This poor hare is still sporting some of his winter white coat, which really stands out against the brown of the surrounding landscape. The only saving grace is the brown colouration coming in and breaking up the white somewhat.

Having a summer and winter coat is all very fine, but in transition times perhaps they're very prone to predation?

You certainly do get to see the wildlife out there which a lot of us would have missed.
