10th September 2007 - scary critters

Tonight’s photo has been hijacked buy this hoss. In case you don’t know, I’m a bit scared of hosses – I still find it almost impossible to be out in our back garden when the ones owned by our neighbours are looking over the fence at me and the day we crossed their field and they came up to us – urgh – it still gives me the willies just thinking about it.

So, tonight when I was out on the moor trying to get a shot of a scene I’ve looked at many times trying to work out the best time of day and angle to get it from, I was a bit bothered by finding myself among a small herd/flock/whatever the collective noun is for a group of horses.

Despite this, I decided to brave the beasts (who seemed much more interested in eating than in me to be fair) and got a few shots of them. I like this one’s kind of beaten up look – scarred bloody leg and big, floppy fringe.

These are the second group of scary creatures I’ve encountered today – the others were human and could well have been gangsters’ molls, judging from the platinum blonde, heavily made-up look. They walked up our path looking for someone. A woman who I’ve never heard of, but who they swore had just moved into one of these houses. As far as I can tell, there have been no newcomers around here since us so I’m sure they were in the wrong place. It was the kind of encounter that you expect in a soap opera when someone is about to get into big trouble if you know what I mean. If it'd been Sue-Ellen they'd been looking for, they'd have pulled a gun and if it was Pat Butcher they'd have dragged her into the square screaming about what a slut she was!!!!!

They teetered back down the drive on their high heels and climbed into a gangster’s car if ever I saw one – a huge black 4x4, with blacked out windows. Then they drove off. Later on, when I popped out to get this shot, the 4x4 was back and the women were just sitting in it, apparently waiting. So, if you hear of any strange goings on on our moor then they just might be the ones responsible.

Every so often, I look back at a shot from last year and think 'we've come a long way' - today is one of those days......it was the start of the journey to making a nice sitting room!

I am too, scared of horses. On our recent holiday in Santorini I had to pass about 50 various mules/donkeys/horses packed tightly in a very narrow steep path. No way round them.......had to go through.....to make matters worse I had a large straw bag with me. Yum yum said the beasts. I was a nervous wreck by the time we reached the bottom. We got the cable car on the way back up.
