These pictures are candid shots taken on Toronto's streets. I really like street photography and tremendously enjoyed taking these pictures. I hope you will enjoy seeing them too. In the close-ups and street scenes I tried to capture expressions, moments, colors and atmosphere of busy city and its people. There are a lots of on-going debates how to shot candids today. B&W or color, long lens or short. I'm trying to stay away of these discussions. This is how I see street. Some days I see it B&W, some days I feel it in color. If you like B&W street shots visit my other galleries, but this one will be only in color, since I think these images look more interesting this way.

Hi Michael, I really admire your candid street gallery. I'm interested in this subject too but I'm too shy to point my camera at strangers just in case they see me shooting. Have you ever been approached and having them object? Some tips would be great to avoid getting in trouble. Thanks.

Street candids are spontaneous interpretations of people turned into pixels. And photography is about "exclusion" from the moment you click the shutter . . . & lens choice is a legitimate part of that exlusion process. I myself prefer up close, but then agian, I work with a G9 P&S which is an easier camera kit to carry into the crowd for clandestine grabs than an SLR. Remember, there are many ways to shoot candids . . . one technique is to ask and pose subjects, another is to capture their essenence untouched by suggestion. Both are legitimate arts of expression. Some nice candid captures here. Some are about the people, others are about what the people are doing and the questions which arise in the minds of the viewer. I enjoyed my visit. can i bring a bit of reality to these comments? there are some decent shots - stuff that captures a 'moment'. but overall i find the 'folio' dull, with lack of common theme - it's really just a collection of people shots. not a fan of long lens shooting for street photography - it's invasive (in my opinion). if you're going to shoot people in the street, if you want to take a photo of a stranger, have the balls to ask them for a shot. unless you are a voyeur - in which case the shots could be a lot more voyeuristic. (nothing wrong with that if you're looking to be 'edgy'/challenging.) some of the images could be improved with more thought to background and/or focal length. all that said... the shot of the girl changing shoes is great - best of the set.

We have similar philosphies and styles in shooting "street" photography. For me it's simply a chronicle of humanity passing before my lens; color or B & W; wide or long lens is only relevant to my mood or the mood I wish to portray. Bravo on an excellent gallery!
