Often a new vision of what an image should look like can be executed in post processing. A discussion on Dpreview was taking place regarding this landscape.
In this case I felt that there was too much going on in the image. It was too busy and also too flat. I decided to emphasize the strong diagonal of the path and make it a larger part of the composition.
Basically I cropped, played with localized contrast, changed the gamma and vignetted the entire image to draw the eye more to the cluster of trees that are above the path. I confess to using the dodge and burn tool a bit.
Here’s my quick edit and unfortunately in my haste I made the shadows too harsh. This is NOT my image and is meant as helpful criticism.
