Covering violation of 1973 Paris Peace Accords

Photo taken at Chu Lai Military Airport.

So, the Paris Peace Accords
went into effect on Jan 28, 1973.
In opposite to the accords, the fight kept going on
and both sides tried their best to violate the document
and to gain control on additional territory.

The accords also specified the two bodies:

- The International Commission of Control and Supervision (ICCS) to control the implement of the accords.
- The Joint Military Commission (JMC) to enforce the cease-fire and preserving peace in South Viet-Nam.

The ICCS has been assigned military UH1-B choppers with 4 white stripes on the tail.
The JMC rode the choppers with 3 orange stripes, as the one behind me.

In fact, the 1973 Paris Peace Accords has been
obviously treated as garbage, no more, no less.
The combat became more intense,
and the ICCS and JMC failed to perform their tasks.
Their work ended on April 30, 1975, as the Northerners took over the south.
To date, the question of how the accords being respected and honored
is still unanswered.
However, during this period,
reporters of foreign media like us have been allowed
to catch a ride on their heli-flights
while covering the violations of the ceasefire.

According to wikipedia,
during the period from 29 January until 31 July 1973
there were 18,000 alleged cease-fire violations,
which resulted in over 76,000 killed, wounded and missing to both sides.
One Canadian and eight others from
Hungary, Indonesia, the Philippines, Poland
and the United States were killed in April 1973
when an ICCS helicopter was shot down.

According to John Conway,
there were 2,197 helicopter pilots
and 2,717 non-pilot crewmembers
killed in the Vietnam War
from all services including Air America.
