High Wire Dinning

Opportunistic feeding activity by a basic/subadult I Bald Eagle at TVA Lake in Ensley Bottoms,Shelby Co, TN.

On March 20th, I noticed a very high, circling immature Bald Eagle, that kept cocking its head looking at something apparently near me. I finally noticed a bird that had struck a stranded wire cable that runs between towers and is used to stabilize high power transmission structures; it was well over 150 feet in the air.

I often see birds on the ground that have run into the power lines and lie scattered waiting to be scavenged. Occasionally a bird gets tangled on one of these smaller guy wires, dies and does not fall to the ground. Such a bird is what caught this immature eagle's attention.
