In this photo, taken a month later in September, just as his brothers with normal coloration, the bird had progressively molted into breeding plumage. You can see the dilute plumage of a male Mallard showing with the darkening head and front of breast, evidence of a white ring on the neck and dark undertail coverts. This is the first time I've been able to document this transition in a leucistic bird.
