Thanks, Gary

Thanks, Gary

Ron - I like your work very much and wished to ask a question regarding sharpening. I work 90 % in Cature NX2and 10% in photoshop. I do my sharpening in Capture NX using Unsharp mask and play with intensity and radius until I'm happy. Nikon has introduced their new NIK Sharpener Pro 3 and I downloaded a trial sample and discovered the results are really not any better than the sharpening program I have in NX. What do you work with?
Thanks, Gary Carr

Your photos of Lyon made me extremely homesick in the best of ways. I live in DC now, but I studied abroad there when I was 16 and began my amateur career as a photographer, so many of your shots are quite familiar. It was heartwarming and they are exceptionally beautiful. Thank you.

I am going to do rim to rim for the 1st time from the north to south. I did the south rim down and back up in one day a few years ago.
What can you tell me about this hike? I do understand what I am in for but can I make it any falls on the N. Kaibab? I assume you cannot get to Havasupai.
Guest 19-Jul-2008 19:54
Ron - I am absolutely blown away with your work. How do you get such incredible 'sharpness' as in your street portraits? Do you use a tripod? Is it a particular lens? I'd like to know. Thanks

I enjoyed the street numbers galleries immensely as I am in the street number business.
There is likely a lot of interesting psychology behind the huge variety of custom address numbers: Large, small, overgrown, etc.

I did not see any numbers that were obviously lighted displays, that is, signage visible
on its own without being lighted by a nearby fixture. The lighted displays are popular in
New England, California, and Florida, but not in Arizona! It would be interesting to see if you can find one to put in the galleries.

I've really enjoyed checking out your galleries, especially the landscapes. I got hooked with your Lake Powell photography not long after you first posted those shots, and I think your other galleries have some of the best landscapes on Pbase. Keep up the good work!

I came across your sight after "Googling" Chuckwallas, in an effort to learn more about them. I've been hiking South Mountain (National and Mormon Trails) and love the scenery and critters (even the rattlesnakes!). Your photos are fantastic..wondering if you've considered making some of them into jig-saw puzzles...like the barrel cactus?! How are they available for print?
So glad to have come across your sight!

Dear Mr. Horloff

Thoroughly enjoyed a stroll through your various galleries.

I have a favor to ask of you. I am starting a small consulting service to assist individuals in personal history endeavors. A client's photo and document items form the
base of such a history. However, on occasion a client will want to fill a gap in her or his record with a photo from another source. I am not in a position to pay for such photos given the start up nature of my business. Would you give me permission to use
photos from your galleries to assist a client? I assure you that I would not mass produce any of your photos for general sale and that I would avoid using any photo focused on an individual as I respect the right of the individual to privacy. Use of your photos for
the purpose I indicate would be seldom and essentially a "one-off" action.

Thanks in advance for your consideration of this request.

Sincerely yours,

Wm. David Rossiter

Hi Ron, thanks very much for the kind words. Your galery is wonderful, you are truly gifted as you possess a superb eye for composition that most shooters only dream about. Hi Ron,
I wanted to thank you very much for stopping by my galleries ~ I'm honored. Your work has always been an inspiration to me. In fact, you are one of the first photographers that I came across when I first joined Pbase and I return time and time again. Your photographs are always beautifully composed and absolutely rich with color.

I've learned so much about photography from Pbase during the past year, and I credit a lot of it to the opportunity to be exposed to galleries like yours.

Keep up the good work...

Hi Ron,

Just went through Arizona images since Shirl sent me the Camelback green one. You have no idea how wonderful it is to go through your gallery when its -12 degrees out and that's not counting the wind chill. Totally relaxing to put yourself in that beautiful scenery without two big goldens pulling you either way. Love the Phoenix morning, the Palms sunset, the morning sunrise, the early January walk is fascinating. Really good stuff!Better than aromatherapy! Now outside to winter. Thanks for my "Phoenix fix" for the day!

My wife and I often visit your galleries to get our fix of the Southwest. Having recently been on a houseboat at Lake Powel, I'm hooked! You've got some very impressive pics and I really like the quality of light that you've captured. After spending a long day at work in a fluorescent lit room, it's nice to check out your galleries and make plans for an escape! Thanks for continued posting and also for your kind comments on my little obsession!

Ron,

Firts of all thank you for visiting my galleries at pbase, and thank you for your kind words. Wow! your galleries are incredible. Everything is just beautiful. Composition and ideas stand out. Not to mention technical issues like sharpness, that I just can't get as good as I would like.

Ron, thank you for sharing, lookin forward to your new ideas
