Originally built as a home for a Sea Captain, it was later used by Queen Liliuokalani the last reigning monarch of Hawaii.
Until the end of the 20th century it was used as the official residence for the Governor of Hawaii.
A couple of years ago the a new home was built as the official residence for the Governor and Washington Place became a Museum.
