Lightning photography is fun thing to do with a certain amount of danger thrill attached to it. The danger is real and it is important to remember that if you hear thunder, you are not safe. Setting up the camera and controlling with a remote while sitting in a car is a good idea and something I have done. Doing the lightning panoramic images is a bit of fun as well. You have to have a storm you can follow and is rather active; if done correctly, however, the resulting photo can be quite striking:-)
