A bucket list bird for sure. This was the ONLY sandpiper on Sandy Point at the time. When I first saw this bird I thought it was a Sanderling in breeding plumage, something we don't see too often in my area so I wanted photos. As I approached I realized what I might be looking at through the scope. As I stood digiscoping , as luck would have it, the bird kept coming in closer and closer. I kept looking for a hind toe. Finally there it was! Then the wing projection was coming apparent. The non-sanderling feeding style, and over all"look". Still unconvinced, after it flew, spooked by 2 gulls sparing, I went back to the truck and looked up in my field guide to make sure it indeed was a Red-necked Stint. Special bird.
