Uji 宇治

A historic city in southern Kyōto-fu, Uji is an important industrial center and the prefecture's second-largest city, with a rich heritage of Buddhist temples and Shintō shrines. Recognized nationally for its tea production, it is perhaps most famous for its graceful Heian-era Hōō-dō (Phoenix Hall) at Byōdō-in.
