Having been on safari a few days already without a single lion sighting, the lions stubbornly remained elusive for days. We had almost given up by the end of the third day until we got a radio about a lion sighting. When we arrived, we were astonished to see not one lion, but a whole pride of about 15 to 20 lions all around the vicinity of a big rock in the middle of the Shaba National Reserve. It was the most majestic sight I had ever seen - exactly like in the "Lion King" animation, but in living flesh. The lions were sitting proudly high on top of a huge single rock above us, able to see the goings-on of everything around and below them. We only had 10 minutes here, and was under tremendous pressure to head back as we had already stayed past the deadline of the park's opening times. My heart raced and my fingers trembled with excitement, and all of us pleaded for an extra minute more after each extra minute was up. The dimming light made it difficult to shoot especially with a telephoto lens, but I managed one or two decent shots that expressed the awesome status of control and pride of the King of the Animals.
