Susan is correct. To add to the answer, Jay Larkin passed away many years ago, later followed by the passing of Helen Larkin (Jay's mom/Jack Larkin's wife, and Jack's other son "Jackie" (John) Larkin currently lives with his wife Melanie on Big Pine Key, FL.

Signed: John (Jack) Larkin Stanton, Sergeant Major, U.S. Army Retired
I am Jack Larkin's grandson, and the son of Joseph F. Stanton (former USCG Pilot) and Hyacinth Larkin Stanton who was Jack Larkin's daughter.

This website owner, Don Boyd, knows me via many emails and some posting's here of a USCG painting by Hy, posted several years ago by me with a brief history of the painting and mention of Red Coach Grill.

Susan - short answer is No. Howard Johnson ended up taking over the company before Uncle Jack died in 1962. Jack's grandneice.

Does anyone know when this Red Coach Grill first opened?

Actually the Red Coach Grills were originally owned by Jack Larkin and Howard Johnson finally acquired them through a business deal with Jack. source: Jack's grandniece...

The Red Coach Grills were upscale restaurants owned by Howard Johnson's. This one was almost across Biscayne Blvd from Sears Roebuck, and was a great way to top off a trip downtown.
