147 Miracle Mile, Coral Gables & 110 NE 79 Street, Miami


They could have been around in the 1950's too. Does anyone know for sure?

Not sure about the history of 147 Miracle Mile, as the current structure was supposedly built in 1981, and is now Kettal Furniture (an obvious redo of the '81 structure).

HOWEVER, a Biscayne Cafeteria existed in this spot until the early 00s, according to a 2010 Miami News Times article, discussing its demise, and describing the room seen in the postcard, and its vintage feel. SO, it remained a cafeteria for another fifty years. I just don't understand all realty sites saying that it was built in 1981.

Here is what the 2010 News Times article says:

Biscayne Cafeteria, Coral Gables.
This was an old school buffet-style restaurant on Miracle Mile that closed earlier this decade. The fare was fair, but it is the feel of the place that will be missed most. Waiting in the buffet line - which snaked around the restaurant--was like traveling through a corridor in time. Servers in Civil War-like uniforms would take your tray from the end of the buffet line to your table and shuffle the plates off with grace and efficiency. They always had a fresh cooked turkey ready to slice and mashed potatoes and gravy so thick it had to be served with an ice cream scooper.

We ate at the Coral Gables location nearly every Friday night so my Mom wouldn't stink up the house cooking fish. It was a great place. Waiters carried your tray and set the table, cleaned up and put a new table cloth on without taking the water pitcher, sugar, salt and pepper off the table. I learned to eat fish (Mackerel) and I loved their custard. My Dad's office was a block away and he knew everyone there. Did I mention it was a great place?

As a child in the 1950's , my family went to the Coral Way Cafeteria on N.W. 79th St. just west of Little River.
