I graduated from Hialeah High School here in 1963 (and my brother in 1965). Wonder how many graduations were held here over the years? My brother's class was so big that they didn't even get to do "the walk" across the stage for diplomas (just stood, turned their tassels and sat down) since it would have taken 5-6 hours and they were only alloted 4. Some other school was graduating that night. (My mother later worked for Associated General Contractors and their offices were in the 'house' that had been the headquarters for the Jackie Gleason Show folks.) Never missed a JG show!

Miami Beach is proposing to tear the Jackie Gleason now the Filmore down to build a hotel. Facebook has a group save the Filmore.

I graduated from Immaculata Academy at this auditorium on June 1, 1968. Other schools graduating at the same time were LaSalle High School and Christopher Columbus High School. I saw many Broadway style musicals at this auditorium, including "Les Miserables."

My Dad worked for Channel 4 (who did the production for CBS) and worked on all of shows there. I remember going to many shows with Mom.

Correction- The Aristocats auditioned for the Ted Mack show here but actually played on the show at Dinner Key Auditorium Jan 13, 1957.

Don's McGinnis' Dixieland Band "The Aristocats" from Gables High played here on the Ted Mack TV show in 1957. Don on piano, Eddie Graham, drums, Larry Burnett, trombone, Tommy Ashe, trumpet, Mike Beegle clarinet. In spite of buying 3,000 penny postcards and passing them out at school, we came in second- a guy that played the bottles won!

At the time this picture was taken the Peppermint Lounge was going strong in, I believe, North Bay Village. They used to tell people how Jackie Gleason used to stop by the Lounge every now and then and to “stick around, he may show up tonight.” What a come on that was but the Lounge still had great atmosphere for young people at the time.
