Founded in 1888, Danang is half way between Hanoi in the north and Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon) in the south. During the American War, Da Nang was home to one fifth of all U.S. servicemen stationed in Vietnam. There's not much to see in the city itself except the Cham Museum, which has a collection of world-class sculpture, but in cycling distance are China Beach (Non Nouc) and the Marble Mountains.
