Caperci (1974); G (1978), N (2000), and REG (2000): August E Kehr, Hendersonville NC; to be I: Briggs Nursery (c2004), Olympia WA. Fls 3/flat truss, broadly funnel-shaped, c1.5" (40mm) long x 2" (50mm) wide, 5 flat-edged lobes; pinkish salmon in bud, opening inside pale purplish pink (56C), with greenish yellow spotting at base, changing to deep rose closer to margin; outside darker purplish pink. Calyx rim-like, green. Truss 1.75" (45mm) high x 2.75" (70mm) wide. Lvs semi-persistent in mild winters, elliptic, 1.9" (50mm) x 0.75 (20mm), cuneate base, acuminate apex, flat margins, semi-glossy, deep green above. Shrub 8' (2.4m) tall x 2.5' (0.75m) wide in 22 years; intermediate habit. Plant and bud hardy to at least -10°F (-23°C). Early.
