The Golden-plovers (Pluvialidae) are a small family of only four species, until recently included in the family Charadriidae (Plovers and Dotterels). However molecular data has revealed that the Golden-plovers are not so closely related to the rest of the plovers. They are instead closer to the stilts, avocets, oystercatchers, and the ibisbill.
