There is a 7.5 km cableway from Caravonica (just north of Cairns) up to Kuranda across the rainforest, with two stops on the way. Kuranda is very much a tourist village, with Bird World one of its major attractions. Our return trip was by train; the line was built in the 1880s to service a goldmining centre further in the mountains, and was a major engineering feat, with 15 tunnels and 37 bridges. And of course, such magnificent views that I ran out of battery. (Have bought a spare since.)
