Faint extensions and tidal stream around M104

Click on image to see other versions

Revealing features as faint as 28mag/squ arc sec is acheivable with a 6 inch telescope!
The Tidal Stream is the faint remains of a dwarf galaxy torn apart by M104 long ago.

LEFT IMAGE: Ultra deep photographic plate taken with the 1.2m F2.5 UK Schmidt Telescope
and photographically amplified and contrast enhanced by Dr David Malin

RIGHT IMAGE: Ultra deep CCD image using an FLI ProLine 16803 CCD with a 152mm F7.5 APO
refractor and digitally enhanced by Mike Sidonio

ED: Davids image has been expanded from a small web file so it does look a little blured
the original would display vastly more resolution but the degree of faint extension is still
evident and a valid comparison.

other sizes: small medium large original auto
