Xiphidiopicus percussus

This widespread Cuban endemic also belongs to a genus that is restricted to Cuba. As many as six different subspecies have been described, although not all seem to be valid. This is nominate percussus, photographed at Marķa La Gorda, in the extreme west of the main island.
