Eric Heiden gets a pat on the head from a race fan after the criterium at Fisherman's Wharf in the Coors race. He actually wore that helmet in the race. The course was pretty dodgy with lots of slick spots. There was some concern about riders sliding off the pier into San Francisco Bay at one point, so the promoters stationed a frogman in a Zodiac next to the pier.
