Dad did a lot of newsreel footage for Pathe'"

Sheila also says: "My parents were the 'then' equivalent of Mr. & Mrs Steve Erwin and all of his little girls were like Steve's daughter 'Bindy'. He was close friends of Ross Allen and Alton Freeman (Rare Bird Farm). Alton also had an animal sanctuary in Spruce Pine, North Carolina, another summer hang out for us kids. As kids we had some VERY interesting summer jobs, hard dirty work (no burger flippin') at equally interesting places. We all learned to water ski at Cypress Gardens as little kids and stayed at Dick Pope's family home while there. Alfredo Mendosa (fancy jump and twirl star skier) was our teacher and he went on to skate in The Icecapades. Talk about some memories! Dad met many of these people doing Newsreels and Commercial Spots for them as a freelancer to supplement his income, and give us a great life as youngins. I really miss them both."
