Pearl-spotted Owlet

(glaucidium perlatum)
The Pearl-spotted Owlet is a small long tailed owl which is found in a wide variety of habitats from arid grasslands to open woodlands. It is often active during the day. Its call is distinctive and far reaching - a series of piercing down-slurred whistles. Its call is often a great imitation to make since it frequently will draw in a flurry of angry birds wanting to mob off the predator. This bird was photgraphed at Spitzkoppe.
