Miami Area and South Florida MISSILE BASES Historical Photos Gallery - All Years - click on image to view


South Florida was home to a number of U. S. Army air defense missile bases, with four Nike Hercules bases, from 1962 to 1979 and a large number of residents living here never knew that they lived so close to nuclear tipped air defense missiles. Thank you to all who served protecting South Florida from possible airborne attacks by aircraft and missiles. South Florida's U. S. Army Nike and Hawk missile bases provided a deterrent against an easy attack on our populated areas and not too many regular folks even knew about the possible deadly situation we were in.

Thank you to Charles D. Carter, originally from Miami and stationed with the U. S. Army at HM01 at the original missile site east of Red Road and north of NW 183rd Street in the early 1960's, for providing virtually all the information on the missile launch areas and Integrated Fire Control (IFC) sites and many of the photos.
